Textures may undulate when going slow, and it may only run in 60 frames. But this is the original that started it and what SCI which they had when they remade it with their recent game.

Full of issues but a lot of fun. I had trouble getting it to start reliably. Sometimes the screen would just go blank and other times it worked. Changing between 3dfx and software rendering seemed to help sometimes. It's also a very low resolution game especially in software rendering mode but it still looks good because it has a lot of character. The cars wobble a lot and are hard to steer and it's annoying but I think it's part of what makes the game so much fun. The problem is that you can get motion sickness and it affected me despite never getting motion sickness from any other games. There is a lot of violence. You have to ram pedestrians for points and the game just celebrates violence in a way that I have not seen in any other game. If you can get it to work and don't get motion sickness then it's a fun game and it's hard to believe it came out in 1997 because it's better than a lot of racing games these days. It's begging for a remake.

Carmageddon's gameplay has some flaws but overall the game is hilarious. The driving can be difficult sometimes, but the insane stunts make up for it. In Carmageddon, races can be completed by either destroying your opponents' cars, driving over all the pedestrians that populate a level or by completing the race conventionally by driving. Towards the end of the game, the other drivers' cars become very durable and destroying them all becomes a tedious task. Since driving over all pedestrians is also an incredibly tedious task, the only option to complete a race becomes the conventional way of just driving and finishing enough laps. Yet Carmageddon is not supposed to be a conventional racing game. Carmaggeddon has also the tendency to become very boring towards the end, since the race completion requirements demand too much repetitive grinding to get. Despite its flaws, Carmaggedon is an important piece of video game history and it has a lot of enjoyable gameplay in it.

The best game I have ever played....

Carmageddon is a very unique car game. I call it a car game because It's not really a racing game but it's also not a car combat game either - it's a mixture of both. You can win in three ways, by winning the race, by killing all the other racers, or by killing all the pedestrians on any given level. It's actually very open-ended, you can choose to play it however you want but the really neat thing is you can just do this by changing your playstyle whenever you want during the level, it's not like a gamemode select or anything you just do it while playing. For example, you could start a game by trying to kill the other racers and then halfway through decide you want to race, so you just start going through the checkpoints instead and the other racers AI will literally change and start going for racing you instead of fighting you. It's really cool, I've never seen anything like it. The game is more of a sandbox playground, the levels are very big open-worldish levels with a set racetrack going through parts of it. You can totally ignore the racing "roads" for a lack of a better term and go fight people on the backroads if you feel like it, and that's this games greatest strength. …
