Melodramatica

"Melodramatica" is one of literally thousands of student projects infesting Steam. It's from Breda University of Applied Sciences. While student projects tend to be better quality than most "amateur" made games, we must still question what value such projects have for gamers. As with all student projects, this isn't really a fully fleshed out game, it's just the result of an academic exercise, and as such it has much more limited value as a game than a professionally developed game would have. Educational institutions should not be using Steam as a dumping ground for homework assignments (especially if the students didn't even pass the course). Sure, it helps their marketing and helps the students feel good about themselves, but this is another case of a business putting themselves before the needs of gamers. This student project is rather upsetting. It's upsetting because it's one of those things that would make for a fantastic game if it wasn't a homework assignment. It's a Victorian era theatre management simulator where you manage a theatre, train actors and resolve conflicts in this game. You can also dress up the troupe and set the stage for the show. Breda and SMU University projects are by far my favorites. There are really good ones out there from them. This one has incredibly beautiful art style, very good concept but it fails to execute and only works on surface level. Helping the actors resolve their conflicts seems is achieving absolutely nothing, most of the time you cannot even catch them in time even with sprinting everywhere. Crafting something is a pain in the a$$ it requires you to button smash and no my precious razer keyboard doesn't deserve that ridiculous and meaningless treatment. Even if you somehow help them, it is buggy AF and you cannot assign them to another task despite still having eligible action points to do so. I could barely do 1 star and usually 0 star. Last thing which most people won't tell you is that the game is extremely w0ke and tries hard to be politically correct. Clearly the scenery is medieval europe and the 2 actors you happen to have are both black men while the main character you play is a white woman, a fat one with extremely large butt. Это игра, которая заставляет задуматься о природе человеческих связей и цене, которую мы платим за любовь и доверие.

The idea is really refreshing and it was also nice to play. You feel the clumsiness as you play but it was obviously stated that it was student project. So you can give it a try! It's free anyway.
