"Merchant Isle" is a weird, almost certainly asset flipped third person adventure game described by the developer as a "language metroidvania". This couldn't be further from the truth, it's not even a platformer. The language gameplay is an annoying busted gimmick that's unfun and barely works, and the rest of the game plays like a pointless Digital Homicide style asset flip. Hard pass on this one. The game graphics look better than you might expect, but that's just because it looks like some or all of them are "borrowed" from asset stores or wherever. Gamers can tell... and it comes across as insincere. There's also the old adage that those who lack the budget and talent to make their own game assets usually lack the budget and talent to do the rest of the job of game development properly, too. This is "free" enough, at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 4 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. was a fun game :) but i got soft locked when jumping over the water where the bridge was and now my save is bricked, pls fix :)
Total waste of time and hard drive space :/ i played this trash so you dont have to!! its 1 and only saving grace is that it is free to play..that is it this game should be on garbage unity not unreal!! its using flipped/free assets EXTREMELY LOW next to ZERO EFFORT it has zero character creation /customization or any considerable depth of backstory or story/narrative over all!! the assets are not remotely interactive enviroment ie doors don't open cannot sit, or climb, fish ect due to total lack of animation/rigging with really garbage textures (the cel shading is not even done artistically) ther is zero way to craft /make required items for the few tardes and items only respawn on a daily cooldown which only wastess more time as there is no way to force time /day progress as in like sleeping...
super fun so far, this is a really cool concept Keep it up!! ^w^
