Did not enjoy. Very rote; mostly plays itself. The voice performances are charming but mixed terribly. Three crashes to desktop.

It's such a shame to not recommend this but for the current price, I don't think it's worth it. You can tell a lot of love has gone into Mixtape, it's beautiful, the voice acting is fantastic and the soundtrack is great if you like the particular genre of music chosen. There were a few really lovely moments but it's more like an interactive short film than a game and the interactions are mostly lacklustre. I wished I had cared more for the story and felt more engaged in what was happening but mostly I was just bored "playing" this :(

Just absolutely succeeds at what's it's trying to do, and feels amazing while doing it. Killer soundtrack, not annoying in the way I was sure it would be. Great direction, striking look, very competent voice acting.

A beautiful, moving experience for the teenager still lurking in my (and maybe your) ageing body. Even if you were not raised in US suburbia, you've probably seen all the movies (BF Club, 16 candles, etc.) and can relate to it... besides a lot of these things are pretty universal. An absolute killer soundtrack. I was shocked surprised and moved to tears when one of my favourite songs of all times kicked in during the final party.

Best for: Music or movie lovers. People nostalgic about their rebellious youth. Skip if: You want replay value or depth in the game mechanics.
Review
Mixtape follows Stacey, an obnoxious, autistic teenager who copes by escaping into music, reciting tracks and artists with the obsessive focus of a special interest. And her two friends: Slater, a longtime companion whose cheerful demeanor masks emotional depth, and Cass, a newcomer desperate to escape her oppressive home life. The game makes a good job at capturing that teenager feeling. From the expressive symbolism that amplifies the characters feelings, to how everything feels like the most important thing ever. The characters are a bit one-dimensional, I actually found Cassandra to be the most interesting one out of the bunch. But I think that surface-level reading is the point. These are guarded teenagers, and the writing earns its credibility by making you work to get pas…
