Mibibli's Quest

Mibibli's Quest is a sort of abstract satire of the genre of "Nintendo Hard" NES retro platformers that were prevalent in the indie game scene at the time this was made. The game is also fascinating from the perspective of how the duo of Resni and Jars' collaboration in game dev would work to enhance the strangeness of their work while also muting some of the more obviously 'game-ified' aspects on display here, specifically things like difficulty settings locking you out of True endings and so forth. From the moment you boot up the game the opening level ART ZONE immediately starts toying with your expectations. Mibibli has a projectile attack that is sort of like the inverse of the attack from Gimmick!, where you shoot in a straight line ignoring the level's geometry and the bullet immediately drops altitude and hits anything underneath it. Naturally, you beat bosses to unlock more bullet patterns, each with their own upsides and downsides. Your 'archenemy' in the game is a crocodile with nice hair who humiliates and demeans you regularly but in a sarcastic sort of way, but you begin to notice that more often than not Mibibli's biggest enemy is Mibibli itself. Mibibli's Quest is an indie action-platformer that proudly embraces chaos, oddity, and old-school challenge. Developed and published by resnijars, the game initially appears to be a simple retro throwback, but it quickly establishes itself as something much stranger. Rather than following the familiar formula of many pixel-art platformers, it throws players into a surreal adventure where nearly every stage introduces a new surprise. i wouldn't recommend it to most people, because most people won't be able to actually finish this game, at least not on the "regular" difficulty. if you really want to see everything and aren't willing to spend time repeating levels constantly due to the sparse checkpoints and low amount of health, you're gonna need to play on the easier difficulties. being the stubborn ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that I am, i plan on not taking my own advice. but to everyone else, this has a lot of stuff that point to signs of greatness. really unique gimmicks and ideas that I haven't seen any other platformer do. some tracks for this game are REALLY good, but a lot of it is just ok. it has a sense of humor i vibe with, and overall has a real personality that I really enjoy getting to see. that is, when the level design isn't almost rage game territory. it's not quite "I Wanna Be The Guy" level, but it can come pretty close at times. I find that once I play a level enough, I can clear a lot of it without getting hit once. That should tell you that the game isn't necessarily difficult because of the design being genuinely challenging, which it can be at times, but because you need to know what the trick is to act…

Genuinely an amazing and challenging platformer, I don't know how this isn't highly regarded alongside other indie classics, shocking people don't talk about or recommend this more.
