Midnight Arcade

Midnight Arcade is a Free to play VR game. It worked on my HTC Vive and Meta Quest 3 via Steam Link system, looked ok, played so-so, sounded ok. Looks like a coding student's final project. CONS: the Mini golf didn't work with the HTC Vive controllers. Maybe try this game for free, but there are better games out there.

Definitely seems like a cool concept but the execution just isn't there yet. The enemies in laser tag do not take damage from the gun so you just run around with a robot that can't hurt you floating behind you. The minigolf spawns you outside of your body and doesn't allow you to move or interact with anything because of the bug.

Midnight Arcade is a really charming little VR experience, mainly because I liked the idea of exploring an abandoned arcade while playing completely different arcade activities. The game combines mini golf with laser tag, and that combination gives me a reason to explore the strange abandoned building instead of simply loading into a single activity and leaving again. The mini golf section is probably my favorite because it lets me move around the outside of the arcade while playing through the holes. I liked being able to explore the surroundings between shots, especially the little details around the gift shop. It gives the golfing a more playful atmosphere and makes the environment feel like part of the attraction. Laser tag changes the mood completely. Instead of calmly lining up shots, I have to fight waves of dormant robots inside a small arena. I enjoyed the contrast between the two activities because they require very different approaches. One is relaxed and focused on precision, while the other is much more active and reaction based. The abandoned arcade setting also gives the whole game a nice atmosphere.
