My name is You and it's the only unusual thing in my life

This game has a special place in my heart. I've had it in my library since 2020. I haven't played it until today. I had a friend, named Jackson. Jackson played this game in its entirety and begged me to play it. "It's a really good story, if you have the patience to play it all the way through." In April of 2021 Jackson took his own life. I hadn't touched this game. Not when he asked me to, nor after he had passed. I finally decided to play it today and it left me wanting much more. My name is You and it's the only unusual thing in my life. The story is inter-connected in a well, and thought out manner. A story that makes you question the right choices as well as makes you question who "You" truly is, and what is truly going on. A phenomenal game that really tugs on your emotions, if you let it.

I think the story was interesting

personally i find the story super engaging although ruined by the (english) voice acting. part of me feels the game should not be narrated to let the player fall into the world and story - the background music, sound effects, and general atmosphere is good enough. i'm enjoying figuring out how the story unfolds. it is also a bit unintuitive with how if you fail to progress, you go through credits all over again, unable to skip them in their entirety, which wouldn't have been that big of a problem if the game was long, but you're pretty much stuck reading credits every 10 minutes, breaking immersion completely.

The choices didn't feel especially meaningful, most of them would end the chapter with just a few lines of dialogue, and whenever "You" dies you have to restart a chapter in its entirety, having to wait at least half a second between progressing each line you've already read. I had assumed the gimmick being that the main character is named "You" would lead to some kind of humorous wordplay or a riddle or something, but it comes up once in dialogue and that's the extent of it. I am saddened that user-defined tags for this game are also incorrect. I don't think this is a "Choices Matter" game, and it's certainly not "Horror" (unless, I suppose, I missed the horror somewhere in skipping over dialogue I've read before.) The main character dies a lot, but the story seems to treat this as humorous more than impactful. Wish steam had a neutral review option, but as I did not find myself enjoying this game, I will leave a negative review. For the price, I will hardly tell you not to try it.
