What Steam players say
Recent verbatim reviews from Steam — separate from playze.io community reviews below.
Mythforce receives praise for its charming Saturday morning cartoon aesthetic and visual style, which successfully differentiates it from typical fantasy dungeon crawlers. However, players consistently criticize the core gameplay loop as repetitive and dull, with sluggish combat and movement mechanics that fail to engage, while difficulty balancing is poorly executed—ranging from trivially easy to brutally punishing depending on the content.
fun coop, underrated.2 found this helpful
It's a pretty fun little slasher dungeon crawler type game. I remember seeing it when it was first shown off and being impressed by the concept and style, which still really holds up. The visuals are great, but the music especially gives it all that Saturday morning cartoon vibe. My only real problem with it is that I wish there was just a little more. One last pass to polish the janky bits, one more act (three levels) somewhere in there, and one or two more playable characters would've really made it feel complete. I understand it's a small team and the game didn't sell very well, so I'm content with what's here.
I like the camp of the story and the aesthetics of the game (it was very 80s cartoon), but the game play loop was really repetitive and not very challenging. The maps repeated within each story act and so did some of the dialogue (that could have been intentional though, again 80s cartoon). I beat the game on hard with a single character in ~8hrs, but would have beaten it quick if I used mouse and keyboard from the start. I feel as though I got my money's worth given the time I played the game, but at full price this would not be the game to get.
Visually striking - it immediately hits the right vibes. However, once the gameplay starts and the visual greatness wears off, it's just a mess and quickly loses all of its steam and becomes quite jank. Still, I applaud the animation and visual aesthetic. I just wanted this to be half as fun as it looked when the action started.
Consider how long I played the game for the basis of my review. I remember seeing the art style of Mythforce and immediately having an interests to play it with friends assuming that I would enjoy it since it appeared to be similar to Gunfire Reborn. While it is a dungeon crawler, the combat felt rigid and simplistic both for enemies and player. There was also an issue with mouse sensitivity where my sensitivity would constantly fluctuate. The gameplay already felt repetitive not even an hour in, and combined with the sensitivity issue it was quite a frustrating time for me.
Bland and boring piece of s...software
