Sideways thumb. The powerups which change your weapon give you a lot of options: each has 4 different attacks depending on which button you press. You can end up changing your weapon multiple times over a very short period of time which I find disorientating. Each time this happens I have to re-learn what each new weapon does on 4 different buttons, and it just kind of throws me off the jibe and makes it feel like I'm re-adapting to the controls constantly as I play, rather than executing and having fun. The level design has had some effort put into it, barriers that need to be shot/avoided and such, this aspect is mostly good. There were times where enemies would appear on me without warning or I would find my ship being moved along very quickly. This is probably one of the better indie SHMUPS of the ones that I didn't like enough to want to play through it. You have a lot of continues but they do run out, forcing you to restart from the very beginning. I made it halfway through the game on my first (and only) run, though.3 found this helpful
Despite the minor technical issues like "stage complete" text getting too big to fit the screen, the game feels like roller-coaster, it's really fun! Also there's awesome music, captivating plot, secrets, lots of different weapons and different routes.1 found this helpful
Quirky but excellent shoot-em-up made with Shmup Creator. A good amount of content with 2 different story modes available (which contain mostly different levels, just the first one is the same). Translation is a bit dodgy and some menu items are in French, but it's not difficult to navigate menus and storyline is a bonus in shmups anyway, right? Also, you won't believe how many different weapon types are available. Some homage other shmups like R-Type and Thunder Force, so the developer must be a fan of the genre.1 found this helpful
Quite unique shmup. very originaçl and different and hard to define. sometimes looks like a classic shmups, other times a bullet hell. There are 4 types of shoots (forward, backword, homing and special) each one assigned to a buton. Enemyes appear form every direction and the screen will autoscroll every direction, so you will have to use that arsenal. There are many different types of weapon, that you have to know when is suitable to pick up in a area. The weapons icons could be more distintive, as it is hard to memorize all the kinds of weapons. The music is great and fits well the ambience. The graphics are fairly basic , repetitive and dull , but they have good visibility. The number of stages is big and the duration of the stages could be shorter. I think the game would benefit if it was more compact. The game has a big number of credits, but believe me you will need all them, if not even more (probably should have a option to have infinite credits). The difficulty is normal for the genre (wich means hard) fair, mainly because it does not follow the traditional rules of the genre and will tajke some time to get used. The bullet patterns are weird. The game is a kitch experien…1 found this helpful
Nanoforce is an excellent shoot em up in both the visual style to the incredible diverse arsenal at your disposal which mixes up the strategies in which you approach obstacles. The soundtracks very complementary to each of the stages as well and left me with a very positive experience. I have yet to beat stage 7, but seeing as it took me two attempts to get the hang of mechanics and gameplay loops, I feel confident in giving it another go. Overall, a great shmup, would recommend it!
You can tell Alec does have a true passion for shmups. The whole graphics, soundtracks, level designs, animated cut scenes,... are quite impressive for a solo-dev ! Play.Die.Retry
