About Night Book

Tricked into reading an ancient book, Loralyn summons a demon into her home. Night Book is an interactive occult thriller movie, created in lockdown, from the publishers of The Complex, Five Dates and Maid of Sker.

Loralyn works the night shift remotely from her home, live interpreting video calls from English to French and back again. Currently pregnant, with a husband working far away and caring for her mentally ill father, she is desperately trying to keep her family together and safe – but who is she prepared to sacrifice to survive? The fiancé, the baby, her father or herself?

Night Book is a linear interactive movie with branching narratives and multiple endings.

• One story, several different paths and endings.
• Unlock a Skip Scene function for multiple playthroughs.
• 15 ending variations and 220 scenes
• Produced entirely remotely during the pandemic lockdown.
• Starring Julie Dray (Cyberpunk 2077) and Colin Salmon (Resident Evil, Mortal Engines).

I'm not certain I would call this game superb, but it's certainly an experience worth having. It's creative considering the limitations. Some parts of the story don't transition too well, but it's interesting nonetheless. I also really like our main actress' performance! Basically, if you're looking for a more serious, professional story, this probably isn't for you. If you're looking for a silly thriller to pass the time, this is great!

NOT recommended for a general audience. Strictly for big fans of FMV and horror and it shouldn't be at the top of their list. The game is almost a failure : actors are unequal, writing is average. When you make a choice, some achievement pop up and announce you what is going to happen. At the end of the game, the stats showing you the scenes you've unlocked are absolutely unclear, impossible to understand. The game doesn't propose an organigram showing you the path you took (and the leads you missed). The fact that you will never leave the appartment surely give it a cheap look. Still, it's interesting enough to explore the different possibilities... The paths you can take are numerous enough. There's not so much competition in FMV games and I still enjoyed my time, even it's so flawed. You can expect one hour for each play. You will have to play it multiple times.

44 Minutes long according to my Steam account, including those 5 minutes I spent in settings at the beginning and digging around the menus. Ludicrously short and unintentionally funny.

Not great, not bad. It's a pretty okay FMV game made in the restrictive COVID era.

It's got that pandemic made game stench to it. I just cannot stand how it's filmed. Story was way too over the top. First game from Wales that I hated seriously lol.

Being someone who had a Sega CD game back in the day, I experienced the FMV craze first hand. I hadn't seen one in decades so I gave it a try. Not much has changed except the video quality, and I suppose the acting is better than what we generally saw then. This isn't bad, if it's on deep deep sale, like a couple of bucks I'd recommend giving it a shot. I wouldn't recommend it for full price though.
