Ova Magica

I just love this game! Breeding blobs is so addicting. I'm trying to make the cutest ones and it's so fun when you wake up in the game and another egg is ready and you get to find out which new adorable blob comes out. Farming is pretty much like in other games with the one twist that blobs have abilities to help you do things faster such as watering or harvesting crops. This is instead of upgrading your farming tools and I found it a pretty cool choice. The characters all have such adorable drawings and they all have charming personalities. Heart events are pretty light hearted for the most but the game isn't shy to talk about more serious problems of the characters either. I felt that the characters were more engaging than the ones you'd find in similar farming sims. Combat is fun for the most part though it can feel a bit grindy at times. The boss fights are the stand outs. They are genuinely challenging and it just feels good to take a boss blob down. Though you can adjust the difficulty if the combat isn't for you. This is a great cozy game. It does a great job of taking concepts that are familiar, but putting a unique spin on them.

Ova Magica has stolen my heart! (Despite some flaws). I backed this game on Kickstarter, but waited to play until the full release. Pros: - Great writing for the characters and their personal stories. - SO MANY CUTE BLOBS!!! - Breeding the blobs is easy and fun, with scaling rewards for generations. - There are many festivals, and they are all really fun and give good rewards. - Progression feels rewarding, and building up the town helps keep the game interesting. - The seasons feel distinct and atmospheric. Cons: - If you love decorating your farm and home, this game offers very little in terms of varied decor items. - The romance/marriage is almost non-existing, which is especially disappointing considering the high quality of the writing in general. - This could be a pro or a con depending on your playstyle, but all the mechanics are very simple with little depth. Example: Growing your blobs skills are either just spamming moves in battle, or feeding them boosters. Neutral: - The character models!! They still crack me up 80 hours in! Its grindy. Stuff is expensive, blueprints to build stuff and such. It keeps you from beating it too fast I guess but days drag once you dont have anything to do, or are waiting on something to finish

Has a wide variety of activities which break up the monotony of farming alone.
