Paper Odyssey

Paper Odyssey has this unmistakable student‑project warmth to it. The hand‑drawn aesthetic, the little personal touches like graffiti in the sewer level, and the quirky cutscenes all give the game a sense of personality that’s genuinely endearing. You can feel the developers having fun with their ideas, and that sincerity is one of the game’s strongest qualities. Unfortunately, the technical side of the experience doesn’t hold up nearly as well. One of the biggest issues is the complete lack of mouse support. You can’t move the camera, can’t adjust your view, and can’t interact with anything using the mouse at all. This becomes immediately noticeable in the opening parkour stage, where the camera frequently blinds you or points in unhelpful directions. The obstacles themselves are spaced so far apart that the level is still doable on the first attempt, but the experience feels clumsy purely because you’re fighting the camera rather than the platforming. The plane level takes these problems to another level entirely. Without camera control, it’s difficult to understand what’s happening from the start, and in my case the entire scene simply broke.
