About Pentacore

- Story -
After extensive searching deep within the vast regions of uncharted space, the federation finally found what they were looking for. An unclaimed planet rich with natural resources.

Not long after the discovery, scientist started to really take interest of the planets ecosystem. After a short time, the federation granted funding for a scientific research expedition.

You have been assigned as security for the scientific team. You will be placed in a stasis pod until your set awakening time. After that,
fulfill your duties as security.

The Pentacore, an emergency escape ship, is located on the surface of the planet. As per security protocol, five key cards are required to start the ships engines. If anything goes wrong, find those keys.

-Features
  • Explore a large world filled with terrifying enemies!
  • Find and collect many upgrades to expand your arsenal.
  • In-Game timer for those who want to attempt a speedrun.
  • Many ways to play through and explore the world.
  • Unlockable secret ending!

-Note to players
Pentacore can be played with both a keyboard or a controller. For the best experience I recommend using a controller. Selecting the 'Help' option on the pause menu will show you what buttons do what. Using the 'Select' button will bring up a map. Rooms on the map will only be displayed as the player discovers them. Important rooms will have markers on the map but it will be up to the player to determine which markers mean what.

Pentacore is a love letter to my childhood. A time period when games were in pixels and a true challenge. Thanks for taking the time out of your day to check out the game!

I have played the game for about 115 minutes thus far. Upon initial impressions, the game is fun to play. Very much a Metroid clone. Which is nice, I love those games. However, in the short time I have played the game, it has crashed 5 times. The FPS drops and lags if there are too many things on screen at a time. Game is a 2 out of 5 stars at this point, but with a proper patch to fix some of these issues it would be fun and great.

The games rooms aren't overly interesting, just an overabundance of enemies. The map is awful, comprising of just squares that don't in any way show how they connect to one another. These 2 things combine to make the exploration tedious -something that ought to be the selling point in a metroidvania. Can't say I recommend this one.

Cool game. It's more a classic Nes metroid rendition than a metroidvania with modern controls and directional aiming.

I don't like having to thumb down, but it's just not something I'd tell someone to snag on sale or at full price. What's here is an extremely basic game following a bare minimum recipe. It works, but is less than the sum of its parts. Got all items and final boss in about 90 minutes - the environs look and sound decent, even good, but each area is extremely linear with the bare minimum of alternate paths and effectively zero reason to linger or return. Controls are iffy, following a known recipe in a straightforward way but with technical problems like occasional dropped inputs. Bosses are... there, providing basic patterns to react to and little else. It is, at the end of the day, a shipped title - everyone starts somewhere. It's complete, it's more than most manage, it's developers should feel pride in their work, but it's also very much an amateur effort.

Very fun game, although it's a bit short. The game's graphics and mechanics are great. However, a few details could be polished to make this experience even better. If you like metroidvanias and have a few hours to burn, this is a good choice.
