About PSYCRON

✦ AI summary

Escape a derelict space station by exploring four distinct areas, fighting bizarre enemies, and acquiring game-changing upgrades that unlock new paths and combat possibilities. Dynamic bosses and interconnected level design create a modern Metroidvania experience enhanced by a jazz-acid inspired soundtrack that perfectly captures the eerie atmosphere.

PSYCRON is a 2D action Metroidvania where you try and escape the deep space scientific research vessel CEREMOS. Explore four wildly different areas as you fight strange enemies, acquire upgrades which change how you traverse the station and discover what happened to the crew of the CEREMOS as you try to escape.

Run, jump and shoot your way through CEREMOS. Many parts of the station are inaccessible until the right ability or weapon is found; thorough exploration of the station’s four areas is essential to escape! Every upgrade changes how you tackle both combat and exploration. Dynamic bosses will test both your platforming and aiming skills as you make your way through the station. Venture across four distinct areas to find a way out.

PSYCRON features a soundtrack that draws inspiration from classic Metroidvanias while combining elements of Jazz and Acid to create a score which is both atmospheric and memorable.

Great for fans of the game Metroid Prime 2: Echoes for the Nintendo Gamecube <3

Whoever made this game is very obviously a Metroid Fusion fan and I'm all for it. Although PSYCRON may not have nearly as much content as games like Environmental Station Alpha or Axiom Verge which are both also fantastic games, what is here is still well rounded and very enjoyable for the most part (especially for Metroid Fusion fans like myself). I like the abilities in this game which are fairly unique and fun to use overall. The boss fights are also challenging but still quite fun.
I also like how in true Metroid Fusion fashion, this game has an unrelenting pursuer- Psycron itself, the SA-X type foe of this game.
On a side note, I've noticed that some reviewers claim to have run into a soft lock that supposedly can happen later in the game. I have yet to encounter this issue as of the time that I'm writing this review. Overall, this is an easy recommendation for Metroidvania fans (or just Metroid fans in general).

My save has about 2 hrs of play time, sometimes i afk so thats why my playtime reads as 4.2 hrs at the time of writing. I like this game, it was relaxing and enjoyable. But im soft locked at the psycron chase out of chemisphere. Apparently i have sequence broke without making an effort to do so. Which is disappointing for me and sad for the game.
The soft lock
I have one double jump, 2 extra health bars and no dash. I can get to the screen just before the sterilisation room, which i have learned is the end of the chase, but it is apparently impossible to make it the rest of the way. I could make more efforts to kite and dodge the fella enough to maybe make it to that last pool of green with enough health to just tank my way across. If i cant pull off a miracle my options are restart with a new save or some manner of cheating to escape this cage im stuck in.
Issues with Dash retrieval
It seems most likely that the dash is required to survive this chase. And i did find it. But wrote it off as unretrievable at this point and somewhat useless, at least at that point, or so i thought. Which again, im going to have lay at the feet of the game here. I saw no …

I believe Psycron is ultimately an okay game. What dragged it down for me was the second chase section, which truly makes the game next to unplayable. I have a question for the developer. Why is it that after the third boss fight you make the hardest chase section in all of video games? Or at least the hardest one of most video games that I ever played. And why did you have to make it so poorly designed? You could have had a good section there, but I believe that the AI is just not right for the level design, especially, I don't know how long the chase lasts, as I wasn't able to get through it at the time of this review. I will try, but I'll see if my opinion of the game changes at all at the end of the game. If I ever make it there and decide that this game is worth trying with.

Starts off slow, but gets pretty fluid and fun later on. It's a shorty...I finished in under 2 hours with 82% items.
