Fun way to learn pixel art - yes it is an effective way to learn as well

Great tutorial for pixel art. Picked up a few tips even though Ive been doing pixel art for years. Really looking forward to coming chapters on form, color and value, which i find the most tricky myself. Textures would be great too. Animation, dynamic lightning and such would be a phenomenal.

Pixel Art Academy is at the moment in early access still, but Retro has already surpassed my university in creating a curriculum that is not only fulfilling, but is excellently paced. The program starts you from the ABSOLUTE basics of art and continues to build upon it in a way that makes it feel as if youre being gently guided on. Most of the lessons (as of now) primarily focused on you tracing and coloring premade lines and shapes which I've seen people complain about. Honestly, I like this approach, there's always a blurb about what the lesson is demonstrating. Once I finish it, I like to zoom all the way out and really look at what I specifically did and what I can learn from it. I'm so excited to keep messing with this program as I wait for more lessons to roll out.

Great learning tool that's broken down step by step. I'm having a lot of fun completing the lessons and projects. A great resource for anyone looking to learn pixel art, and just a fun chill time doing the little exercises. Highly recommend!

A great guide to creating pixel art, with practical tutorials, lots of reference material and plenty of objectives to keep you going. I have learned a lot by going through the material and challenges.

Beautiful presentation, I have done a bit of pixel art myself but wanted to see if this game would teach me anything new, which it has already. As some other reviews have said it can be a bit samey with making you draw exactly copying what the artist wants you to draw like a "connect the dots" drawing game, but anybody who has been to school can tell you that this is something you have to do in some regard for any kind of learning. The presentation of the entire environment is also gorgeous, with beautiful retro elements sprinkled through, even in unnecessary things like an incredibly charming animation for switching which song is playing in the background with you putting an actual cassette in a player. Basically my only complaint is that the jazz sometimes gets incredibly intense, much too much for the vibe of trying to draw- at times it gets incredibly reminiscent of the music that plays when you're fighting a Guardian in BOTW, which for somebody who vibes while I draw are important can be quite jarring 😅 But you can swap out the music so that's fine too Edit: Having used it further later on it gets to a section with a lot of theory and explanation of the math of pixel art, …
