Primal Rift

A short JRPG that follows the progression of an older survival horror game. Found this via MNTM Monotonal Lizard on Youtube. The setpieces are pretty cool, but the game never lives up to its full potential as an RPG, being so short - it really is more Survival Horror than JRPG. The scale and scope are small and localized to a singular location, and resources fairly scarce; shortcuts and workarounds unlocked, and secrets to be found and more survivors to be saved. I feel like this is meant to be the start of a series or the prologue to a much larger JRPG, but the gameplay loop and speed wouldn't fit with that sorta scale - indicative of this would be the fact that there is a T-Rex that you never even see up close. Most fights are against small arthropods, in fact. The artwork ranges from just simple chibi to unusually detailed background artwork, with the dinosaur and other prehistoric lifeforms' battle sprites taking the cake. Overall, worth playing through. The only other Dino JRPG I know of is "DIno Hazard: Cronos Blackout," also here on steam, and also worth a try. I would love to see a followup to Primal Rift.

Primal Rift is an rpg about an oldschool infestation with teeth. Beat it first time around in 2.4 hours using a keyboard. Difficulty is medium. This prehistoric romp was made with RPGMaker, but outside of a few turn-based battles and some pixel graphics, It doesn't behave like a standard rpgmaker game. There's no mindless going around levelling up, no farming for battles, and each part comes across like a thriller/horror game sequence where you collect limited ammo and explore a bloodied expanse of Mesozoic mayhem. Which is positively rad and refreshingly different. The premise of Primal Rift is there is a building full of dinos and you're sent in to rescue people. Only things that bugged me all game were the weird difficulty swing and the slow as nails walking pace. Most enemies you can take out in one or two hits. Then you come across bosses who can take you out in one or two hits. You don't have to level any to beat them unless you want to (except for one unbeatable boss early on), but more often than not you just have to get lucky that the scaley menaces miss their mark on their more lethal moves. This game was well worth the money its a lot of fun and I really want a sequel I HIGHLY Recommend

Basically Dino Crisis: The RPG. Does some unique things mechanically I haven't really seen in other RPGs. Short, but sweet experience

Really nice little Rpg. It's a bit rough a the start, but overall it is a solid little game.

The game is a bit janky sometimes and a little rough. But for the asking price this is well worth your time. The art is fantastic and the music is pretty good. I am a huge fan of animations during battle, and this is the first time i've seen it done with guns in rpgmaker.
