Rauniot is an isometric post-apocalyptic point and click adventure game full of intriguing puzzles with classical gameplay elements. Story takes place in beautiful and detailed scenary of Northern Finland.

In the year 1975 a massive natural disaster pushed the civilization over the edge.
Riots, massive conflicts and wars occurred.
Homo homini lupus.
Main continents were drowned by seas. Heavy amounts of pollution spread around from collapsed nuclear power plants and -warheads. Not many survived from those deadly times.
Children born mutated or dead taking their mothers with them. Fathers walking alone in bitterness and sorrow driven to cannibalism as food resources slowly ran out. In this sad new world nature and man are trying to survive and find balance.
Still some individuals manage to trust one another just enough to establish groups providing protection, food, clean water, medicine, electricity and knowledge for better life.
Aino is one of those lucky ones to be part of a group. But it can be one hard job in this world. Giving everything you’ve got in dangerous journeys and tasks prevents one to be isolated.

Rauniot is not a perfect game - and it would be hard to recommend to people who don't like point and click games, but I was surprised by its commitment to showing the grittier side of the apocalypse. For veterans of the genre, the puzzles are all reasonable. If you're not well-versed in the logic of these types of games, you may struggle however. There's a good "hint" guide that I found online for the 1 puzzle that stumped me, which is helpful as the game itself tends to let you figure stuff out yourself. It is worth noting that, while this is a short game, it's not a particularly fast game. Cutscenes are really slow and you can't speed them up (only skip them). Fortunately, there's a lot of quality of life with moving around that I was grateful for. I used the slow moments to appreciate the visual design of the game. While there are a few flaws with the writing (as well as some minor typos/translation errors), Rauniot tells a mature and thoughtful apocalypse tale. It has a lot more in common with something like Firewatch, rather than Monkey Island.6 found this helpful

Illegible. No options (and I do mean none, outside of sound volumes.) Unplayable. Scalable fonts, industry standards, best practices... never heard of them at Act Normal Games. Never considered fixing their deficiencies either. Amateur hour, only they want money for it; more than pros, in fact.1 found this helpful
mediocre, boring game that annoys you with a language that sounds like a blow to a ♥♥♥♥ stained toilet paper, plus you cannot turn it off.
