Secret Agent (2023)

Are you looking for one of the most forgettable modern moege VNs, with nothing particularly bad but nothing particularly good either? Look no further than Secret Agent, developed by Ensemble. A lot of people comment that this is basically just a worse version of Riddle Joker developed by Yuzusoft. They both star a socially awkward male lead, in Secret Agent’s case Jin, a trained ninja, who has to infiltrate a school and has secret powers that he has to hide from the rest of the student body, and there is a final villain (in Secret Agent: “The Bat,” clearly a reference to Batman), that the main character is looking to beat while infiltrating the school. However, that’s where the comparisons stop for me, because this otherwise feels like what I guess we can call a very chill moege. While Secret Agent can sometimes have some mildly amusing, cute humor at times, it’s not constantly trying to bombard you with over-the-top harem romcom or sex jokes like a Yuzusoft or Smee title. Set in a modern Japan where ancient ninja lineages continue to operate in secret, the story follows Mikage Jin, a young operative tasked with infiltrating Touka Academy. His assignment is to identify and investigate a mysterious individual known only as "Bat," all while maintaining the appearance of an ordinary student. 4 heroines, 4 routes. I'd say you get 20-25 hours if you have the 18 patch installed (Do get it on Nekonyan's site. The H scenes are stills but not too shabby). Anyway, not a big fan of this game. The art is 5/5, the characters are 5/5, but as mentioned in other reviews, the story is just bleh. Idk if this game was rushed or something or had a bad budget but, the story leaves a lot to be desired. The main plot line is to capture some "Villian" called the bat, and you don't even do that in the main story OR any heroine route, it takes a so called true end that you have to unlock by playing the whole game, and even then it's just, meh. This isn't a terrible VN by any means so I do recommend it but, save your money for when this is on sale.

In concept the recap feature is an interesting idea but it would have been better if it was only played when you boot up the game. Yui best girl

This is a short warning too all of ya, if whether you want to regret ever buying this game or not. You see, there's this AdvHD.exe, the main execution file to open the game, and before you open the game, a settings window appear, and never ever check the checkbox of "skip this window next time", as there's no undo button. The main issue is this. No "Default Speaker" option. Only specific ones. Pick headphones, your speakers are dead to the game. Pick speakers, you won't be able to use the headphones again. Because the settings can't be accessed in the game normally. Not even the ALT options ./. P.S. I would like that refund right about now... Also, I've tried deleting setting files in the game's folder, it doesn't exist... Defaulting settings doesn't work for in-game.
