Secrets of Grindea

This game attempts to emulate the classic legend of Zelda feel and while it does manage to provide some mechanics and gameplay moments that capture parts of that magic. It ultimately never really reaches a peak worthy of standing up to games like that. Beyond gameplay the games story actually shows considerably more promise when compared to other games in the genre. The narrative unfolds at a healthy pace and the world ends up feeling lived in a realistic. There are some pacing issues, specifically near the end, but they aren't really that jarring. Up until around hour 15 I felt ambivalent, if not slightly positive about the game's design and play. However, the last 10 hours ultimately became a monotonous slog as enemies gained spongier and spongier health bars and the game necessitated more and more grinding to unlock the endgame content. While I recognize "Grind" is quite literally in the name, there are good and bad ways to implement grindy systems (See diablo 2 for an example of a good grindy gameplay loop). The grind is unfortunately strictly necessary for unlocking the true final boss fight which, while a thrilling climax, felt somewhat hollow given the tedium and boredom it …

Don't bother with it. The combat is okay (at best), using different skills at the right time can feel rewarding, but parrying and dodging are bad and not as responding as they should. The story is crap, it realy is just "begin your adventure", "collect the 5 important items" and "time for the bad boss". On top of that, the characters are just written so... lazy. It feels like half of them just starred at a Dora the Explorer episode. They dont try to put some work in any character, these are your basic dumb, snobby, mean or 4th-wall breaking characters. Just skip this game, there are so many more games that deserve your attention

A half decent ARPG with several hardcore achievements and gameplay elements The game would be nicer if we could make a single character to be used in all game modes, instead of a different character for every game mode. The developers didn't know what kind of game they wanted, and this shows. It's ridiculous I chose to be a spellcaster and even with a 2h staff I'm expected to use a shield to block attacks. The game tries to use elements from souls games and gives you minimal chances to heal, most boss fights are about learning patterns and trying over and over, especially if you want to play in expert and above. The fishing mini game is complete trash. The game gives you lots of different systems to play with, but not of them is properly developed and feel less than half baked. The game tries to use the newest trends and fails spectacularly. Even after getting the true ending, I felt the entire experience was half baked, and gear progression was really horrible. Im not so sure whats the point of the game!

This is a very fun game. It is sort of like Stardew Valley, except the primary focus of the game is on combat. The fighting in the game is fun and interesting, and the bossfights often employ unique mechanics. There is also a large amount of customization possible, allowing for a variety of combat styles/builds. The story mode is great, with excellent lore, worldbuilding, and a healthy side of good humour. I really enjoy the style of the graphics, and the game even runs perfectly on my potato of a laptop. I strongly recommend this game to anyone looking for a unique hidden gem to play.
