About Secrets of Grindea

✦ AI summary

Battle through a colorful SNES-inspired world packed with 300+ characters, 30+ boss fights, and deep customization across 9 skill categories—solo or with up to 3 friends in seamless co-op. Beyond the main story, craft your own adventure with home building, fishing, pet taming, and a roguelite Arcade Mode that challenges you to climb an endless gauntlet on a single life.

Secrets of Grindea is an old-school Action RPG with co-op support for up to 4 players. It is a tribute to and sometimes a parody of the old SNES games so many of us grew up with and loved! Journey through fantastical lands, and battle tons of different enemies and bosses in your quest for truth, friendship and, above all, finding the world's rarest treasures!

Key Features

  • A rich world filled with 300+ unique, colorful characters and an engaging story to drive your journey forward.
  • Co-op support for up to four players! Enjoy the entire storyline with your friends or call someone in to help with the more difficult challenges.
  • Customization, customization, customization - design a character that represents you, then mix and match any of the 31 spells and skills across 9 different categories.
  • 30+ epic boss fights! Overgrown slimes, giant robots, mimics - we have it all!
  • Side content - design your own home, fish, craft items, tame pets, partake in mini-games, grow plants - there’s plenty to keep you entertained when you want a break from the main story.

And last but not least:
  • Arcade Mode - Separate from Story Mode, the game includes a full roguelite version where you need to battle your way to the top on a single life, building a town of your own as you progress. How far can you get?

Fun game, but missable content is a thorn in my side. It's uncool to have to resort to a guide to make sure you get all the achievements etc.

I might update this later, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ are the puzzles in this game so tedious, time consuming, and not fun to play. Yeah. I just can't. This was going to be a positive review, honestly. However, the puzzles these guys cooked up are just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ horrible. Pixel perfect timing works if you're a developer with the chops to make it work. When you don't do it right - which you did not - it is just a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ absolutely infuriating mess. I genuinely don't understand how developers make these mistakes anymore. It's juvenile at this point. There are too many ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ video games out there done correctly for me to tolerate this sort of insipid ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ anymore. Your game isn't based on movement. Stop making movement based puzzles. What is wrong with you? Why would you try and make movement puzzles with the tightest timing when your game does not play like a game meant for complex movement? There's a hundred games doing this correctly - Why did you fail? Why didn't you look at 100 other examples of this style of puzzle that works? Crosscode is a great example. Want to know what they did before they made movement based puzzles? They figured out and fine tuned their movement within the en…

Truly a labor of love, a game made by primarily one creator over 14 years turns out to be an excellent action RPG with a fun skill system, offering great challenge and some grind, if you so choose. The weird meta existence of a card distribution system from monsters that grants the card owner powers is rooted in an ancient story the player will come to understand. The core game can take around 30~35 hours to 100%, a little longer on a harder difficulty. The Arcade Mode is a roguelike adventure that plays identical to the core game, with all the same loot and enemies, but remixed with additional modifiers, boons, and power ups that make an already great system go to the bonkers end game of breaking all the things. If you thought the core game was tough, this is even harder. Progress towards permanent unlocks for power are slow to come, leaning into the grind in Grindea. Overall, the value is there. Try the demo and see if you like the playstyle. I think you could get a good amount of time from either side of the game's modes, but most will probably enjoy the story mode as the roguelike mode, while solid, is better done elsewhere. It definitely feels like the "post-game…
