About Shardlight

The world ended on the day the bombs fell. Since then, it’s always been like this: disease, hunger, death. The ruling Aristocrats — a faceless oligarchy that controls all resources — have unchallenged authority. There’s never enough food, water, or vaccine to go around. The rich receive regular doses of vaccinations in exchange for their unconditional government support. The poor live in fear, superstition, and squalor until they die.

Amy Wellard, a young woman reluctantly working for the government to qualify for the vaccine lottery, believes there’s a cure — and she’s going to find it. Even if it costs her her life.

✦ AI summary

Players praise Shardlight for its engaging story, atmospheric post-apocalyptic setting, excellent pixel art, and solid voice acting that create a memorable experience. However, opinions split on difficulty: some feel the puzzles are too easy and lack challenge compared to other Wadjet Eye titles, while others find them perfectly balanced and logical, though a few puzzles can feel obtuse or have unclear solutions that require trial and error.

Really nice point and click game, set in a post-apocalyptic city. Won't spoil the story, but it has 3 endings. the game autosaves right before the ending so you can replay the ending to see them. Puzzles aren't hard at all, even if it doesnt have a "show spots" type of accesibility feature, you need to look for what's interactable with the mouse. It's low res on purpouse, so it will be locked at a low resolution, but it feels right for what it is. It plays wonderfully on the deck. Totally recommended for fans of the genre.

Shardlight is a solid point-and-click adventure with a great post-apocalyptic atmosphere and some genuinely interesting world-building. The pixel art and soundtrack do a good job creating a bleak, memorable setting, and the story kept me engaged throughout. The puzzles are mostly fair, though a few felt a bit obtuse, and some characters could have used more development. It doesn't quite reach the heights of classics like Gemini Rue, but it's an enjoyable adventure that's well worth playing if you like story-driven games.

The story is not as good as "Lamplight City" but solid enough with decent worldbuilding and characters that are improved further by the excellent voice acting. Somewhat light on puzzles and relies on inventory puzzles only but it is a point in the game's favor that the solutions are well clued in and moon logic is not required. The ending is a little pessimistic but not unreasonably so and it does align with what's been set up throughout the game. Not the greatest point and click but one that is worth checking out as long as you can tolerate dystopian settings.

This is a great, if short, throwback to the point and click adventure games of the 90s. Science fiction dystopian themes support a rewarding plot.
