What Steam players say

Shred Off is a free downhill skiing game with shooting mechanics that players find genuinely fun and addictive, featuring good pacing and a satisfying PS1-style aesthetic. However, the deliberately low-poly graphics are a polarizing choice that deters many, the game is quite short with only a few tracks, and several players report bugs including audio distortion and achievement tracking issues. Despite its rough edges and limited content, most appreciate it as a solid free experience with engaging core gameplay.

"Shred Off" is a free student project from Breda. It's a basic downhill skiing game with a bit of shooting and other stuff, so I guess the students got some learning in. But what about the game? Is this actually any good? This features fairly low quality low poly 3D visuals which will deter a lot of gamers, understandably. Gaming is a visual medium, and it's clear the developers behind this didn't understand that. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at just a dozen or so concurrent players, and now there's basically nobody playing it. Even though it's free. This is a…2 found this helpful
Shred Off Positives: + Good idea + Shooting while snowboarding is really cool + Very fun and addictive + Good sense of speed and action + Nicely made tracks + Cool weapons to use + Ok sounds and music + Its free Negatives: - Awful graphics (I know its supposed to be like this, but why?) - Bugs - Sounds and music gets distorted when health gets low - Only 3 track to choose from (4 if you count the training level) - Unless you want to drive the same tracks over and over, its very short When playing this I got the right PS1 vibe. The speed, action and console feel is awesome. I dont know though why they chose to go with the awful looking graphics. With far better graphics and more tracks this would have been a fantastic game. But I guess its good enough, and its free as well. Total Score: 7/101 found this helpful
i don't know how to win first level in 90 second ???
Pretty quick play thru. Had fun trying to get combos all the way down the mountain. Fairly difficult game with some unforgiving controls and a lot to manage with health, time, score, speed, and combo. All achievements worked for me besides the beat level 1 in 90 seconds. Got all the way down to 72s without it triggering.
Actual awesome game. Super fun for a free game. Pretty short but well made.
