About Sir, You Are Being Hunted

✦ AI summary

Survive on procedurally-generated British islands while being hunted by murderous tweed-wearing robots in this intense first-person stealth game. Hide, scavenge, and evade relentless AI enemies across five unique biomes with infinite replayability and the deadpan assistance of your butler Walters.

Sir, You Are Being Hunted is a procedurally-generated British horror in which tweed-wearing robots hunt you for sport. Roam the landscape, scavenge for food, hide breathlessly in the undergrowth, flee in terror, and even fight back with stolen weapons.

Sir is a stealth and survival game unlike any other.

    Every Game Unique!

Sir, You Are Being Hunted is set on a mysterious archipelago generated procedurally by you, and therefore unique to each game you play. You can define your own islands, each one created in moments by our rather clever British Countryside Generator. These islands are then populated by a raving aristocracy of murderous robots, their robot hounds, and worse. You job is simply to survive, and get home.

You're not entirely alone, though: The disembodied voice of Walters, your butler, will help you and offer advice.

    Ultimate AI Threat

Sir's AI is one of the toughest in stealth, and as an open-world game, it's unique in its field. The robots are some of the most aggressive and intelligent game enemies you will ever experience, and will pursue you even after losing sight of you. Expect to be hunted!

    The Most British Of Games

Sir, You Are Being Hunted is set in a parallel Britain, complete with bleak villages, rocky highlands, bramble-filled woodland, decrepit farms, and crumbling post-industrial landscapes. Made with the remarkable power of our British Landscape Generator, these landscapes are enormously evocative and teeming with detail. Take time to explore, and find that vital hidden flask of tea!

A charming little trip through the British countryside, complete with courteous robot gentlemen who would very much like to murder me. It turns out "pastoral" can be surprisingly menacing.

While Sir, You Are Being Hunted has a unique atmosphere (it offers a British countryside ambiance with amusing and somewhat charming Victorian-style robots with very British humour; the game's the first tweedpunk survival FPS), the gameplay quickly becomes repetitive. Most of the time is spent walking, scavenging, and avoiding enemies, which starts to feel tedious after a few hours. The combat is clunky and unsatisfying, and the AI can behave unpredictably. Combined with the game's slow pace and minimal story, it can be difficult to stay engaged in the long run. I've managed to complete a run, but for me the game's just not entertaining enough to justify another playthrough, and I cannot recommend it in good conscience, as for its full price, I just don't feel it's worth the time.

In many ways, this game feels like an indie precursor to both immersive stealth games and extraction shooters. I'm not saying it directly inspired games like Dishonored or Arc Raiders, but you can clearly see the ambition of this small project, even more than ten years later. When I was younger and played it for the first time, I found it genuinely intimidating. Not because it was a horror game, but because of what I assumed the experience would be. You're stranded on an island full of enemies, with very limited means of defending yourself, forced to rely on whatever tools you can find to survive. On top of that, you can't save every few minutes. Back then, I never managed to finish it. Coming back to it now, I was surprised by how short, simple, and approachable it actually is. The stealth mechanics are extremely basic. If your visibility is low enough, enemies will bump into you without noticing. Seriously, this happened to me several times. The tools at your disposal are simple and effective, and enemy behavior is incredibly predictable. Throw a bottle somewhere and the robots will investigate it every time. I don't consider that a flaw. This is a small indie game, and even many…

Sir, you are being munted. Short, atmospheric game that took me about 2.5 hours to beat, but it generally holds up quite well, even though it came out in 2013. That being said, it can get pretty repetitive even in the game's short runtime.
