Help! I've been Ass-Slapped with a Portuguese Man 'O' War! and ~30 other half-baked stories that probably aren't worth your time.
Play experience: I got through maybe 3/4 of it, dropped it, read all of Umineko, contemplated buying more VNs, then started back from the beginning 5 years later to clear out the VNs I already own. I got through one ending: -Himeno-. Maybe I'll go back to try and figure out what was going on with Kenji eventually, but this game has bored me away from it. Music was pretty good, visuals were overall great (I'm not the biggest fan of how non-chibi characters are drawn outside of maybe Kenji though that's obvs subjective, the backgrounds are absolutely gorgeous), translation was discernably B-A-D BAD, and the mediocre plot doesn't help. I actively felt this game try to kill any interest I had in it every time Mayu opened her mouth. Not that Mayu is an unlikable character, on the contrary, I REALLY wanted to like her as a protagonist! But all of her growth (and she's really the only character that seems to GET "growth") is very tell-don't-show-or-do. She's very flimsy as a person, and so is Himeno. I just can't get over how unrealistic the both of…2 found this helpful

Sound of Drop is a messy story with some positives that save it from being atrociously bad. Mayumi and her friend Himeno visit the mystery-surrounded Manten Aquarium. Then, Mayumi sees her younger sister Mari, who went missing there five years ago, and chases her throughout the aquarium, losing Himeno in the process. Afterwards, a series of strange phenomena occur, and Mayumi has to figure out what's going on, and save Himeno and Mari. Sound of Drop puts its protagonist Mayumi in a LOT of life-or-death scenarios, and it's up to the reader to correctly pick in the 50/50 to help her survive. Both because the story doesn't do the legwork of getting me to care about Mayumi or any of the other characters and because of the sheer amount of bad endings, these choices, and the resulting bad endings, aren't fun or exciting, they're tedious, and B-movie quality at best. Also, it even sometimes feels like the story is pulled off course just to forcibly insert another opportunity for a bad ending. Originally, Sound of Drop had only two true endings, but an update four years after its release adds two more and expands the story in other ways. I think without this new material, I would …
