Ghost in the pool

A short, entertaining horror story with a beautiful design! I adore the similarities to Junji Ito's works; the art is wonderful and especially the grotesque elements are depicted in detail. The story itself is rather generic and superficial, however I found following the plot intriguing and the creepy ambience immensely intensified the suspense throughout it. The soundtrack is incredible too, and combined with the visual effects creates a tense and chilling atmosphere during certain moments. The small point&click fragments are a fun little bonus to the immersion, but sometimes felt a bit off topic lol. In general, I think that occasionally the plot included unnecessary "slice-of-life" information and wish that it got replaced by more lore regarding the paranormal stuff instead. Otherwise, I liked the flowchart system with the different endings and story events, though manual saving would've been more convenient as an addition. Overall, it's a nice VN that mainly relies on the immersive atmosphere and aesthetic over the actual plot, which works pretty well for its length!

I didn’t play [b]Ghost in the Pool[/b] before the remaster, so I can’t compare it to the original—but the remastered version is a seriously solid visual novel. From start to finish, I was really into it. The art style fits the vibe perfectly, and the visual and sound effects do a nice job of pulling you into the story. The horror stuff works surprisingly well too—not over-the-top, but definitely creepy in all the right ways. There are multiple paths and endings, and the game makes it super easy to jump back to specific points with its checkpoint and timeline system. That alone made exploring all the choices feel smooth and rewarding. The horror in this VN is where it truly shines—some of the disturbing visuals reminded me of Junji Ito’s work, which is high praise. It had me on edge the whole time, and I loved every second of it. Honestly, the only downside is that there’s no skip button for scenes you’ve already read, so you’ll have to click through them manually if you’re replaying. Brief yet well written horror story in junji ito style. To the point of almost being a knock off. Main flaw would be backtracking mid game, clearly a filler could have been executed better but can't complain given it's a tiny project. For this price it's all good

Cool short horror visual novel.

this was the very first game i bought in steam and the reason i downlaoded steam years ago, so i love it and will love it no matter what. but aside from that, i think the game is beautiful in most ways. mostly the art style, i LOVE it. yes, game may be slow, short and all but the story is good imo. i havent played the remastered version yet, so these are my opinions for the old version, but im sure the remastered version is also great. and it really kinda gives Junji Ito vibes. ALSO, its very cheap, why are u guys reviewing it like an expensive game? great game to play if u have a couple hours to spend and see some great artwork.

I played Ghost in the Pool right after playing Concealed and even though it wasn't perfect, I still enjoyed spending my time getting to 100% it. I'm going to try my best to not compare the two games or ramble about Concealed, even though they have a bit of crossover and are in the same 'universe' along with Weirdo, all taking place at DiYingLing High. Just to note, I've never played the original version of this game-- only the remastered version, which is what's available now on Steam. Ghost in the Pool is a fairly short, linear game, but I don't think it's awful despite the length. The story is entertaining and there aren't many dull moments, pretty much every scene adding to the plot and lore. I would have liked to know a bit more about the characters, but there wasn't really much time to get attached to anyone, not even the MC, Yaru. (Okay, there's actually one ending that made me appreciate how crazy and reckless this girl is though, LOL.) Most of the characters add very little to the story, but I feel like they could have been given some extra background info to be made more interesting.
