https://youtu.be/JYWwrSEkeMc This lightweight shoot-em-up game offers little in the way of game design. It contains players, enemies, and projects required to be called a game, but nothing is done to use those parts to make something worth playing.14 found this helpful

Space Scumbags is a very basic 2D vertical scrolling retro pixel arcade shoot 'em up with a very bland sci-fi space fighter theme. This looks to have been copied from a basic Unity shoot 'em up template/tutorial and reskinned. Gameplay is extremely limited and shallow even for the ancient and obsolete shoot 'em up genre, with very few kinds of upgrades, attacks and so on. There's no progression or point to the game, really, and this is surpassed by free shoot 'em ups, where this is a paid product (thus a bit of a cash grab). From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decisio…3 found this helpful
Very functional game! For it's price point, it's fine by me (got it with coupon or sale, can't remember). It's not easy to progress through the levels. However, with the help of C.E. lol, I locked the "specials" qty and spam like free. Clearing the waves like snapping Infinity Gauntlet. Mapped Shoot and Laser to SPACEBAR and Missile to ALT. Clear the waves fast enough before they fire any projectiles, Then you don't need to avoid much and keep your health bar up. Don't hate me for gaining advantage in SINGLE PLAYER games. Unlocked all achievements. Didn't find any bugs. There are total of 100 levels each in Arcade and Random Mode. The achievements only require you to clear 80 in each mode. The boss at 100 is quite surprising. If you want to grind it out without C.E. be my guest. Warning; "There's no CONTINUE option". No SAVE, no LOAD. i.e. Die at level 80 and you'll have to work through the levels to unlock your achievement 100%3 found this helpful
I'm seeing a lot of negative reviews for this game, and I don't get it. If you liked the old DOS games Galactix or Kiloblaster or you will love this top down 2D space shooter. And you can't beat the price.1 found this helpful
Space Scumbags is a retro-style arcade shooter developed by AlcoholEnthusiast and published by Back To Basics Gaming that embraces the simplicity and fast-paced chaos of classic space shooters from the arcade era. Built around nonstop action, enemy waves, and score-chasing gameplay, the game captures the spirit of old-school shoot-’em-ups while presenting everything through colorful pixel-art visuals and energetic arcade pacing. Rather than focusing on deep storytelling or complicated progression systems, Space Scumbags commits fully to delivering straightforward space combat where survival and quick reflexes are the only things that matter. The game throws players directly into dangerous space battles filled with hostile ships, projectiles, and large enemy formations that constantly pressure the player from every direction. The objective is simple: survive the overwhelming chaos while destroying as many enemies as possible. This stripped-down design philosophy immediately gives the game a nostalgic arcade feeling where the gameplay loop revolves entirely around movement, reaction speed, and maintaining control during increasingly intense encounters. The lack of unnecessary comple…
