✦ AI summary

GalaxIverse is a retro-styled arcade shooter that strips gameplay down to basics, with players appreciating its straightforward, skill-focused design and simple controls that deliver about an hour of entertainment. However, critics point out the game suffers from outdated pixel graphics that feel like a budget limitation rather than a stylistic choice, lacks expected modern PC features and options, and offers limited depth beyond its core loop of waves and boss encounters.

I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing. Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side. With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of y…

GalaxIverse is a somewhat poorly made ripoff of Space Invaders (copyright Taito, 1978) where you shoot waves of aliens coming down the screen at you. But there's a little extra added, like pickups, different game stages where asteroids are flung at you, and you can also aim where you shoot, making this a bit of a twin stick shooter version of Space Invaders. Which nobody asked for or wanted. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for …

GalaxIverse, developed and published by Sub Orbital Software, is a tightly focused arcade shooter that leans unapologetically into the traditions of classic shoot ’em ups. It strips the genre down to its essentials—movement, shooting, and survival—and builds an experience that prioritizes reflexes and consistency over modern embellishments. Rather than layering on narrative elements or complex progression systems, it delivers a straightforward, skill-driven loop that feels intentionally old-school in both structure and pacing. The gameplay centers on vertically scrolling stages filled with waves of enemy ships and dense projectile patterns that demand constant attention. From the moment a run begins, the pace is relentless, pushing players to stay in motion while maintaining accurate fire. Enemy formations are designed to test both positioning and timing, gradually increasing in complexity as the game progresses. This escalation creates a steady challenge curve, where success depends less on memorization and more on the ability to adapt quickly to changing patterns. Occasional boss encounters break up the flow, introducing larger threats that require sustained focus and careful ma…

Simple space shooter that manages to fill up one hour. The game emphasizes simplicity and straightforward gameplay. There is no story; the main goal is to defeat all enemy waves across ten stages. Each stage consists of several waves of enemy ships and asteroids, followed by a boss encounter. Enemies will continue to move towards the bottom of the screen or loop around, but they are very easy to defeat. You can also destroy their bullets. Bosses require some thought because you can only harm them if you destroy all of their turrets. One all the turrets are taken out, the boss is a piece of cake because it doesn't have any other attack. When you defeat the last boss in stage 10, the game just returns to the beginning, but with increased difficulty. Controls are simple. All you need to do is move the ship left and right while holding down the fire button and occasionally dropping bombs. If you want to make things easier on your hand, you can turn on the autofire in the settings. While there is no currency or shop to upgrade your spacecraft, you can still grab icons that boost your bullets and a helpful drone that follows you around. The game is fair because you don’t have to sta…
