About Sprite Sequence Chapter 1

This is the first Chapter of the Sprite Sequence saga! A delightfully wacky story about the process of creation and being human.

Follow our little hero as he tries to make sense of the strange and sometimes frightening world he's been thrown in.

Key Features :
- Story oriented
- Light puzzle and platforming
- About 10 to 20 minutes long
- Hand-drawn and animated
- The adventure continues in Sprite Sequence Chapter 2!

This project started in 2016 as a way to try and make games like a webcomic is done : by releasing a small bit of the story every week. This improvisation based process gave rise to a game I wouldn't have wrote otherwise and I'm quite excited to share this first Chapter with you, that compiles the 10 first entries of the project.

(Note that the weekly creation has halted after Chapter 2 but may resume in some not so near future)
Before I played Sprite Sequence Chapter 1, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
Short and best game to play in your free time. I really like the story, how the protagonist finds himself in an unknown world and discovers the places. Will be playing chapter 2 soon. Hope the story is continued very well.

Sprite Sequence Chapter 1 is a demo/intro chapter for an abandoned series of 2D retro platformers slapped together with the godawful GameMaker Studio construction kit from Yoyogames. The game features arguably charming line drawn art and features gameplay fairly standard for most puzzle platformers. The puzzles are fairly ambiguous and rely as much on chance as skill trying to work out how to solve them... some breadcrumbs from the developer might have been nice. This results in a less than satisfying experience. So too does the asset/template flip nature of the game. Resolution and controls are locked, and while the line art is "nice", it's hardly giving us the visuals of games like Halo Infinite or Far Cry 6. GameMaker Studio is a very poor quality game construction kit, and unsurprisingly results in products that have little to no value as games, especially when compared to the work of professional developers who create genuine products for gamers. Using a video game construction kit requires little to no talent or skill as a game developer. Very often, GameMaker Studio is used to make shovelware and lazy cash grabs, although in this case the game is completely free. …

The most interesting moment of this game was when it crashed after I jumped on a bug wrong (pun not intended by me, and I hope not the developer).
