Spy Fox In: Hold the Mustard

I've got mixed feelings on this one. On the one hand, I think the gameplay itself is just fine at best. On the other hand, I really enjoy King Konglomerate as a character and think overall the introduction of a proper story in this arcade game warrants some praise. Still, I would only really say to get this on sale, possible within the Spy Fox Complete Pack or Humongous Entertainment Complete Pack.

This has to be, hands down, the worst Humongous Entertainment Spinoff game in Juniors Arcade series. It has frustrating aspect from Pajama Sam Lost and Found, and it has boring aspect from Freddi Fish Maze Madness and Putt Putt Ballonorama. And worst of all, it has it's own unique downside of terribly wonky controls. If you ever played any free flash games back in the day, and remember one space or sea travel game? Yeah, the controls are like that, slow, sluggish, and just overall unsatisfying. The shooting is also unsatisfying, although there's not much else to say So no, don't buy this one, and don't feel bad for not playing it even if you got it from Spy Fox games bundle.

[b]‘Live and Let Die.’[/b] I should preface this by saying that several years ago I stopped playing this when I was about halfway through the campaign, and it was only very recently that I resumed. Normally it would be fairer to review something when all of it is fresh in your memory, but once I returned, it quickly became apparent why I took such a long break. [i]Hold the Mustard[/i] is a [i]SPY Fox[/i] spin-off about destroying automata that are trying to steal all of the world’s tomatoes. It plays very similarly to [i]Asteroids[/i]: you move your ship around in two-dimensional space clearing level after level of enemies. Your main weapon is a plasma cannon that you’ll be spamming for most of the game, but you can temporarily acquire honing missiles and explosive plasma projectiles that are both marginally more useful. At a small cost of your ship’s health, you can also destroy enemies by ramming into them. Most of the enemies are the same large drones that slowly float either straight toward you or straight towards the ground to steal tomatoes, and occasionally you encounter smaller drones that are harder to hit. None of the foes has a ranged attack, and none of them has any …

It's a cute, lovely, little game, but it's so simple and outdated that I can't recommend it to children. However, a deep gratitude to the developers for their positive contribution to our childhood!

The gameplay is really fun. It's satisfying to move your little aircraft around using the mouse and shoot enemy robots. I only have three cons with this game: 1. This game is almost too easy. I've gotten what feels like quite far in the game, and yet most of the enemies still die in one shot, there aren't nearly enough of them to be overwhelming, and they move really slow. I know that this game was meant for children, and that's probably why they kept it easy, but I wish the difficulty increased more noticeably. 2. I wish this game had more "SPY Fox" elements to it. After the intro cutscene, every couple levels you'll get a call from Monkey Penny or a cutscene with the villain, but that's it. I wish SPY Fox spoke more during gameplay. This game's writing isn't nearly as witty as the SPY Fox adventure games. It feels very empty at times. 3. The game's story involves a villain trying to destroy Earth's entire supply of a certain type of food so that everyone will switch to the villain's food brand. This is pretty much the same plot as [i]SPY Fox in Dry Cereal[/i], but with ketchup and mustard instead of cow's milk and goat's milk. Could they not have come up with something a lit…

What is this? The original games were witty, enjoyable point n click adventures. This is some arcade space invaders type nonsense. Marginally better than the last arcade top down racer but not much
