Starstruck Vagabond

I must admit I wasn't expecting this game to feel as fun as it is but it's surprisingly an engaging game. The dialogue is definetly entertaining and the crew members can be rather enjoyable... however I must say that there is a few things that do kind of annoy me. Not a deal breakers mind you but they certainly make the experience feel a bit annoying. But lets start with the good. The upgrades feel impactful and make me actually want to try and find everything hidden in some sectors. The Dialogue is rather entertaining, and the fact it subverts a lot of some gaming cleches in rather entertaining ways is always a treat. The whole delivery system of trying to pack crates into your ship without blocking off important path ways is surprisingly fun to get down. And it just feels like a game you can turn on and play for a long while until you then notice it's dark outside and you realize you played it for 10 hours straight. It's one of those games that just keeps you in a sort of flow state that's really fun when you get into it. Basically, this is Stardew Valley in space with a sense of humour informed by retro British sci-fi, most clearly Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Red Dwarf. But I was really impressed both with how addictive the main game loops are (they have that "just one more thing" magic touch) and also how well the writing won me over. I just finished the main story and I was surprised how much it moved me, and how much I had grown attached to my crewmembers. My only criticism would be that there are still a few small bugs here and there - nothing game-breaking but I did need to work around some creatively. Definitely worth checking out if you like casual job-sim games and sci-fi comedy. If somehow you found this game without knowing the developer from YouTube, Yahtzee's YouTube series are also well worth checking out (Zero Punctuation, Fully Ramblomatic, etc.)

I’ve been a fan of Yatzhee for a long while and is the only reason I’m subscribed to Second Wind at all(meaning that if he goes, I’m unsubscribed). But I never read any of his books, not even in Audio book form, but I was interested in giving his game a try. And it’s good. Story: You were a freighter that was sent by the Earth Federation to gather some powerful minerals to win a war against the machines. And on the way back while in cryosleep, there's an accident and your frozen for 2000 years. Now with nothing but a ship provided to you by your new lawyer, you have to make a living hauling cargo across the galaxy. While there is more to the plot like the stuff involving the giant purple egg in the middle of the map, it’s mainly just you doing your job between plot beats. Sure I like the lawyer at least trying to get you settled even if things get thrown in our faces and there seems to be a theme of finding meaning not only with the crew you get trying to find meaning in their lives and almost everyone trying to find out what’s the deal with the giant egg. Heck, depending on what happens in the climax, you might be asking that question when you’re rewarded for the post-gam…

Chill game with a killer soundtrack.

A really cool space game with grokkable game mechanics that overlay each other to make them compelling and then made very interesting by a fun story.

Maybe the good writing starts after the part where I am (2 crew members) but so far I have only meet annoying one-dimensional caricatures of stereotypes as crew mates.
