I like Sugar and Rolling Stone

Sugar & Rolling Stone is a small puzzle platformer that caught me off guard with how simple the idea is. I am helping a girl named Sugar reach a locked door while controlling Rolling Stone and using the objects around each level to create a safe path. Sugar is carrying a magical key that makes her unable to jump normally, so I have to work around that limitation instead of simply running and jumping to the goal. It is a very straightforward setup, but I like how much the game gets out of that one basic idea. The puzzles are the main reason I enjoyed this. I have to think about where objects should go and how they can help Sugar move through the level. There are cannons that can launch her across the map, springs that let both characters jump and other little gimmicks that change how I approach each section. I like that the game encourages me to look at the environment as a collection of tools rather than just obstacles. When I work out a solution that initially looked impossible, it feels pretty satisfying. I also like the cute presentation. The hand drawn and pixel art style gives the game a simple charm without trying to make everything look overly detailed. Sugar and Rolling S…
