Combining COVID (CV) and a myriad of playable characters that are obvious parodies of real people didn't inspire a ton of confidence. However, it's based on Dr. Mario, a game I haven't played for years, and obviously isn't available on Steam. Seeing some unique mechanics that could shake up that classic concept was tempting enough that I eventually caved. Considering its prominence, I should probably learn to trust my gut more.
Gameplay
If you aren't already familiar with Dr. Mario, it's a fairly simple premise. Red, blue, and yellow viruses are set up in the board, and you'll match pills of the same color alongside them. It takes four of the same color in a row to eradicate a single virus. Each pill drops in as two pieces, and can be any combination…11 found this helpful
Disclaimer: I played Super Dr Corona at the launch party for the game in a tournament setting- ---- and had a blast. It does quite a lot with its simple formula, while being fast to pick up. Interesting power ups meet a colorful environment where you have to think on your toes. If you like silly things that you can be competitive about, give it a try1 found this helpful
10/10 would mask up again. This is a great arcade game. Very quick to pick up and a blast to play with the kids. Really enjoy the tongue in cheek humor. The core mechanic is is really solid (as the title of the game implies is inspired by Dr. Mario), but the added mechanics and powers specific to the characters you unlock push this game beyond the game that inspired it. Overall a super fun game that works perfectly as a quick pick-up-and-play game.
Puzzle games is one of my favourite genres, and since this game it's inspired on the NES classic Dr. Mario I was totally in. It feels very familiar the gameplay like Dr. Mario but has a very unique gameplay, this is because is more fast paced, so instead of matching 4 colours you only match 3 and also you have an special attack bar and also items, which makes the gameplay quite hectic in a very good way. Dr. Mario for me is one of the best puzzle games ever and Super Dr. Corona gives a new option for the puzzle lovers. I totally recommend this game.
Perfect Steam Deck game! Run's great, played a bunch on there which is unfortunately not tracked by steam due to being offline.
If you've played Dr. Mario and wished it had a bit more strategy to the game play and enjoy punishing your opponents, look no further! Super Dr. Corona offers a clever twist on the classic puzzle formula. With character-specific abilities that can clear sections of the board, the game introduces strategic elements that keep each match interesting. The variety of viruses types, power-ups, and character abilities give the game a surprising amount of depth that isn't immediately obvious. The game’s visuals are polished, featuring character designs that playfully reference how we collectively went a bit nuts during the lock-downs. The audio enhances the experience without being distracting. Multiplayer modes are a highlight, providing balanced competition that’s enjoyable for all skill levels. The solo quests are challenging, especially as you progress, ensuring that the game remains engaging throughout. For those who appreciate a good puzzle game with a modern flair, Super Dr. Corona is a solid choice. It’s a well-crafted title that combines strategy, humor, and fast-paced action, making it a standout addition to the genre. I've played it for well over 20 hours now and it's sti…
