"旅燕归航 Swallow Homing" is not a game, it's an e-book that's been dumped on Steam masquerading as a game. As a visual/interactive novel, this doesn't feature any notable gameplay, it's just a lot of clicking through badly written dialogue that would never have been accepted or published in print, which poses the question, "How did something this badly written end up on Steam?". When someone hoping to become an author is unable to get published in print, they spend $100 and dump their high school fan-fiction onto Steam, under the guise of a game. This garbage E-book follows the same general theme as all garbage E-books on Steam, that is to say, it's an incredibly cringey Chinese high school anime club dropout fan-fiction about one primary topic, you guessed it, the authors imaginary girlfriend/waifu. There's a mostly unrelated sci-fi backstory, but the primary focus is the nauseatingly bad fan-fiction about the imaginary girlfriend. Also this wasn't even made with Ren'Py, apparently too complicated for the author, so this trash was put together with RPG Maker (the worst thing to happen to gaming). Only been playing for about an hour, but I'm already completely immersed in the atmosphere. This isn't a shooter-it's a story that hooks you from the very first minutes. The feeling of loneliness on a broken ship is conveyed brilliantly-through the quiet creaking of metal, meticulously crafted pixel art, and the protagonist's diary entries. Every corner I examine, every log I find, is a piece of the puzzle, and I already can't wait to uncover what really happened here. The sound and visuals work in perfect harmony, creating a subtle but constant sense of unease. So far, it's a very powerful experience, and I'm already looking forward to discovering the secrets that lie ahead. Definitely not a game for everyone, but if you love narrative and atmosphere-this is absolutely your thing.
