About Tales from Candleforth

Tales from Candleforth is a folk horror 2D point and click game with puzzles and escape room mechanics, that narrates the fairy tales from the village. The text contained in this ancient and evil book is now bleeding out, mixing the world of nightmares with the real one through handmade 2D graphics.

I like puzzle games but this one was really meh. Other reviewers say the story is 'dark' and good, but it literally feels like a childrens story. The puzzles themselves were OK at best, just a string of mediocre puzzles then suddenly the game ends at the 2h mark. If this is on a mega sale then I'd say go for it, but for an experienced puzzler this game didn't really hit the mark.

for those that love fran bow or little misfortune or any creepy/cute puzzle games. a delightful little world with puzzles that are engaging but not difficult if you let yourself sit with them

A really inventive and fun little puzzle game! The art is absolutely breathtaking and the overall ambiance is genuinely eerie. It's a really great under 3 hour experience if you're looking for a game to start and stop in one setting! The puzzles are challenging but fair. If you're a folk tale fan, or a Over the Garden Wall fan, you'll find a lot of charm to the story and setting.

Worth buying on sale for a few dollars, probably not worth $12. Besides being short (most of my "play time" is actually from where I dozed off holding my Steamdeck lol), the puzzles are either too easy or too obtuse. I've played several dozen of this type of game, and my biggest pet peeve is puzzles that are solved by randomly clicking inventory items around scenes. If I have to guess, it isn't satisfying to solve. That being said, the art *is* beautiful and the overall concept was intriguing. But the end was abrupt, poorly explained, and left me a bit confused. Did... did I win? Is this what "winning" feels like? Was there a better ending?

Rural countryside scenery with a touch of the macabre, complete with imaginative puzzles that were sometimes a bit too clever for me to solve without using walkthroughs; nonetheless, I was drawn into and enjoyed this fairy tale of a young girl trying to find and free her imprisoned Grandmother.
