The Adventures of The Black Hawk

Typos. Translation errors. Frustrating pixel hunts. Annoying copy-protection gimmick. Dull, long-winded dialogue. And the nine-verb interface was an arguably poor design even back in the 1990s, so it's definitely a bad choice today.

Has DRM which requires the manual. This only punishes the people that bought it, anyone pirating would have a workaround. It's very annoying.

I've finished the game with pretty mixed feelings. I'm giving it a thumbs up because it's clear a lot of work and passion went into making it, but there are some design choices that honestly baffle me — I can’t believe they made it into the final version, and they're genuinely annoying. Minor issue: the manual you have to use every single time you launch the game. At first, I thought it was a joke — but no, you actually need to use a PDF manual just to start playing. As a nod to old-school anti-piracy methods from '90s adventure games, it’s nice. But after the first time, it just becomes a pain and doesn’t really serve much purpose. Medium issue: the difficulty of the puzzles. I had to use a guide multiple times because I refuse to spend days using trial and error until I randomly land on the weird solution the devs came up with. Some puzzles are logical but many are way too unpredictable. Major issue: pixel hunting. It’s wild. It ramps up the difficulty in an artificial way, and there’s a lot of it. Solid game. Reminds me a lot of the great point and click adventures I played as a kid. Some small typos in the game, nothing major. Just noticable. Some puzzles, like horse at jail puzzle, seemed a little too obtuse to figure out. Most were easy to figure out given enough time. Overall, good music, great graphics, and just a lot of great anachronistic jokes :) Highly recommended for old skool point and click fans.

I am the exact target market for the black hawk as I have played every point and click adventure that was out there in the 90s. I loved the look and feel of the game, the bacgkground music, all very classic, good job! But the puzzles... not a lot of logic, which sometimes is fine for the challenge, but no hints of what to do next leave you out there with no sense of direction. You can always guide the player a little bit but it was at Napoleon stage when I chose not to come back to the game bc I realized it would take way too much of my time. The lack of good flow killed me unfortunately. It's worth a second edition with improvements coming from the customer base.

Vive la révolution! You play as the Black Hawk, a masked vigilante going all Robin Hood on the French aristocracy in this heavily Lucasarts inspired point-and-click adventure game. I'm a sucker for historical fiction, and this one doesn't disappoint. While I would have liked voice-overs, that wasn't game breaking for me. I loved the SCUMM engine style interface and the pixelated graphics, bringing me back to the early Monkey Island and Indiana Jones games. The story didn't disappoint and I'd gladly grab a sequel (baited in the ending cutscene) if one releases.
