About Blacksad: Under the Skin

✦ AI summary

Investigate a boxing club murder in 1950s New York as hard-boiled detective John Blacksad, using your feline instincts to uncover clues and make choices that shape the story's outcome. This narrative adventure captures the noir atmosphere and anthropomorphic world of the acclaimed comic book series with puzzle-solving, interrogations, and multiple paths to solving a sinister case.

A dark corruption scandal in the heart of the New York City's underworld for charismatic detective John Blacksad!

The 50s, New York City: Joe Dunn, owner of a boxing club, is found dead.

Meanwhile, rising star Bobby Yale, due to take to the ring for the most important fight of his career, has mysteriously disappeared.

Sonia Dunn, Joe’s daughter, takes over the gym and must deal with its financial woes. She hires private detective John Blacksad to investigate Yale’s disappearance. This sinister case will take our investigator to the darkest, most dismal depths of New York.

With its anthropomorphic characters and its incredible 1950s feel, BLACKSAD: Under the Skin promises all the eerily dark adventure of a detective novel, just like the eponymous comic book series.

Conduct the investigation in your own way. Make use of your feline senses as you hunt for new clues. Make decisions on behalf of Blacksad and influence the outcome of the case.

The story of this game was amazing. It was the thing that kept me coming back... because it was the only good part of the game. The gameplay itself was abysmal. I tried every trick in the book to fix the QTE speed... only to be met with nothing that worked. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED the story of this game and it felt very interactive, albeit linear. The characters were developed well, and it introduced me to a comic I otherwise wouldn't have read. I will be reading the original series because of this game.... but I am utterly disappointed by the game itself. Someone hire me to fix this. I'll do it! The story is wonderful and I found it very captivating! But seriously, some gameplay improvements would make this game a thousand times better.

I enjoyed it, typical detective story with the expected who done it twists and turns.. worth the time to play through once. My only beef with this game is the character walks so slow and there's no way to make them move faster..

Really, really terrible experience. I wanted to be able to enjoy this game but it is technically impossible. I started with Steam Deck because it's labelled verified, but turned out there are multiple loading points already in the early game that will forcibly brick and reboot Steam Deck, at some point I simply could not progress because of this. Then I changed to PC, but should've known that the save was not carried over. If you wanna enjoy this game, do NOT use STEAM DECK.

Really enjoyable detective game. Gameplay is something you have seen hundred of times in these type of games, but the story is well put together and keeps you hooked until the end. Give it a try!

Overall, I really enjoyed this game. The choices not only influence the game's progression and ending but also the character's own personality, making the experience feel much more personal and tailored to the player. I liked it so much that, after finishing it relatively quickly, I started a new playthrough to make different choices. Another plus is that collectible cards aren't reset when starting a new game, making it much easier to find them all.

Great detective story, beautiful art style, and interesting characters. The noir atmosphere is excellent, and the choices make the experience engaging. Highly recommended for adventure game fans. One tip: if you experience performance issues, lowering your screen's refresh rate can help make the game run more smoothly and improve the overall experience.
