What Steam players say

I remember seeing a review that said something along the lines of "this game is not worth paying full price" and though I've only played about five and a half-ish hours so far, I totally agree with their statement. The Charming Empire was apparently adapted from a mobile otome game, which I wish I knew before purchasing this game. The gameplay really does feel like one of those mobile otome games minus the minigames they make you do. Luckily, I bought this game during a sale, and yet, I feel like it is not worth the price. The art style is very beautiful and the CGs and backgrounds are wonderfully done, however the writing is the problem. The MC is quite dense and you start to question her intelligence every step of the way. She has no sense of danger, is way too naive, and rarely stands up for herself. Sometimes, the writing is far too predictable and cliche while other times the story will introduce interesting concepts/themes like political unrest, a rebel uprising, and genocide. However, it doesn't take any of these things further to make their plot more interesting. I think The Charming Empire had lots of potential if it clearly explored those themes and ideas within the…4 found this helpful
The Charming Empire is a romance-focused visual novel that blends court intrigue, personal drama, and historical-inspired fantasy into a story centered on destiny and relationships. Developed by OperaHouse Corporation and published by Dogenzaka Lab, the game places players in the role of Amane Kosaka, a young woman whose quiet life is abruptly transformed after being summoned to the imperial capital by her brother, the ruler of a powerful empire. What begins as a reunion soon develops into a journey filled with political secrets, noble rivalries, and the possibility of finding love among a colorful cast of characters. One of the game's greatest strengths is its setting. Drawing inspiration from Japan's Taisho era while incorporating fictional imperial elements, the world feels elegant and romantic from the moment the story begins. The imperial capital is filled with aristocrats, military figures, and influential citizens whose ambitions shape the events unfolding around the protagonist. This backdrop gives the narrative more substance than a simple dating simulator, as players become involved in matters of governance, social hierarchy, and hidden conspiracies while pursuing differ…
STILL IN THE MIDDLE OF PLAYING (GRAMMATICALLY INCORRECT, WILL BE EDITED LATER ON) I dont get people who thinks they arent related when soshi himself said "only half a bloodline" maybe the line "we arent real siblings" is because they arent "fully" related. honestly i feel like they are indeed half siblings but this is on steam so they go back n forth with the step, and as towrds the end idk if its mistranlation but the mc said she always call him brother idk how to access more of the album
This was sadly no so bad it's good, it was just bad. Plot was predictable, romance forced, pacing was sloooooooooow. The best part was the voice acting. I would say if you want this game ONLY get it on sale. If this game doesn't interest you then give it a pass.
DNF. Not gonna rate this one or do an in-depth review because I barely got into it. Started one guy's route (I forget his name, the aide of your brother) but it's just not grabbing me and I'm not a fan of the UI or the dialogue font/speed/etc. It's becoming a chore to try to finish, so I'm just shelving it here for the foreseeable.
It's not a bad visual novel / otoges but it's not really a good one either. The stories and sprites are alright but quite basic and everything felt a little rushed or forced, outside of a couple story lines. The CG felt quite disappointing, they're not even pretty or special. Translation is alright, UI is clunky as hell, you can tell they didn't put much care in this port. The voice cast though is really good with classic voices from beloved VN/otoges. Overall, the heroine was quite annoying; if you enjoy the classical demure and clueless maiden it's fine I guess. The Soshi story really started well and then the heroine does something out of the blue that makes no sense outside of a narrative need for it, then spends her days sobbing about the consequences of her stupid actions. The game is originally a PS Vita game it seems, I was surprised to see that it came out in 2017 and had so little to offer. If you truly insist on playing it, get it heavily discounted.
