The Day of the Jellyfish

*BEEPING* good game

Fun, short tribute to LucasArts-era point & clicks. No reason not to try it, as it's free. The only bit that tripped me up was that certain objects become interactive only after looking at them. So, some context interactions are not available until you've already clicked on various things! Keep this in mind before turning to a guide if you decide to give this title a go.

The Day of the Jellyfish is a really charming little point and click adventure that I had a lot of fun with. The setup is completely ridiculous in the best possible way. Hank and Duck arrive in town to put on a concert, only to discover that a soft drink company has been polluting the ocean and causing the local sea life to mutate into dangerous jellyfish. I liked how quickly the game establishes its silly sense of humour without making the story feel completely random. The biggest strength for me is the classic adventure game structure. I get to explore different locations, talk to characters, collect useful items and work out how everything fits together. There are plenty of strange little puzzles based around the polluted environment, and I enjoyed having to think about what I could use in each situation. Some solutions are quite silly, but that fits the tone perfectly and made solving them more entertaining. I also really liked being able to play as both Hank and Duck. Having two characters gives the adventure a little more variety because they can approach situations differently, and it reminded me of older point and click games where switching between characters was an impo…

It's ok for a free game

Funny short game (about half an hour play) from the developer of Red Star/Dead Head, I've played it before on Itch, but it's free here now as well. The sequel Escape From 8-Bit High is in development, try the demo for that too!

Tries too hard to be funny but ends up being very, very cringe. The "winks" at old P&C games are so forced and unsubtle, it gets irritating real quick. I suppose Boomers and older GenX are the target audience... And for crying out loud, why. do. amateur. voice. actors. always. speak. like. that? Pausing. after. every. friggin. word? At least give us the option to mute them.
