About The Girl Who Sees
The Girl Who Sees is a point-and-click adventure and tactical RPG hybrid that explores WWII history and Philippine fantasy. In 1945, a village girl Quina survives under Japanese occupation. She helps a dwarf translate a mysterious scroll in hopes it will explain why she sees Tagalog words wherever she turns. Aid both human and magical, fight mythical foes, and restore balance to the realm.
Choose your gameplay style:
- Battle Mode: Level up by fighting in turn-based battles.
- Discovery Mode: Level up by answering trivia on Philippine culture, history, and lore.
This game was created through a crowdfunding campaign and through the support of the Filipinx-American community.
EXPLORE MAGICAL MINDANAO
Interact with Philippine mythical creatures, the humans in Quina's village, and the occupying soldiers. Complete tasks for them to gain experience and level up.
LEARN TAGALOG WORDS
Collect Tagalog words and build your dictionary to translate Tagalog sentences into English.
CHOOSE YOUR PLAY STYLE:
Throughout your quests, you will encounter ancient Filipino magical creatures hindering your way forward.
BATTLE MODE
In BATTLE MODE, fight against the mythical creatures with Edgar through turn-based battles.
Craft potions for the local albularya (shaman woman) to gain new special attacks.
DISCOVERY MODE
In DISCOVERY MODE, fight creatures by answering trivia questions on Philippine culture, history, and mythology. This play-style may be more suitable for educational settings.

Really fun. At first it seems really rudimentary and simple, but when you get into it a little more, it teaches you a lot of Tagalog and a lot about Filipino folklore. It also has a fun potion mixing mini-game and pretty good combat if you pick the RPG option instead of the answering trivia questions option. I only just solved the first quest, so I'll expand my review at a later time, just want to say this is definitely worth a look. Edited: Got to the final battle and it seems bugged. I can't move my characters around on the map at all. Hopefully they fix this.4 found this helpful
Cute short game! Really wish there was more to it, but definitely a nice quick game to learn background on Philippine history and mythology.
[i]This is a review focused on the Pen (trivia) mode - there is also a Sword (tactical RPG) mode, but I haven't tried it.[/i] The Girl Who Sees is a simple adventure game, not a blanket recommend for all players, but enjoyable when approached with an inquisitive mind. It's an adventure/trivia game (or adventure/RPG, depending on your mode) set in the Philippines during Japanese occupation, touching upon colonisation, culture, language, food, history and more, through the eyes of a young child trying to help the people around her. Given that I only played around 2.5 hours, the game mostly serves as an overview, but I was happy for what I learned. It was especially interesting as someone from a different Spanish-colonised country, seeing the overlapping effects on language, religion and more. The game's audiovisual presentation is relatively simple, effective without any issues, with the main point of interest being the character (and mythical creature) illustrations. The Pen mode shorter and mechanics-light - just gathering/using items and answering questions. I knew there wouldn't be combat, but it's a shame that there wasn't any reason to make potions, either - it would have h…
