About Beyond Eyes

✦ AI summary

Guide blind Rae through a beautifully painted world as she searches for her missing cat Nani, learning to overcome her fears and embrace life beyond her sheltered home. This touching adventure uniquely explores the world through a young girl's perspective, letting you experience how she gradually makes sense of her surroundings through sound and touch rather than sight.

Beyond Eyes is a modern fairy tale about finding courage and friendship as you carefully guide young Rae on a life changing journey, uncovering an incredible world, step by step. Blinded as a young child, and reluctant to leave the protection of her family home, Rae’s world is once more shattered as Nani, her pet cat, goes missing. Summoning up all the courage she can muster, Rae learns to face her fears and ventures out into the world, to find her best friend.
  • Experience the world from the unique perspective of a young blind girl, as she is faced with the world outside of her parent’s home and the challenges her disability brings.
  • Immerse yourself in a uniquely painted and explorable environment, overlaid with a haunting musical score.
  • On Rae’s journey to reunite herself with her feline friend Nani, you will help Rae make sense of this unfamiliar world, changed in the years since she first lost her sight.
  • Unlock achievements to mark your progress both through the woven story, and with helping Rae grow more comfortable with her surroundings and disability.

They should make playing this game a punishment for serious crimes. Crime rate would drop to 0%. Also why is it PURE whiteness? Were they concerned if they make it black it'll be scawy? Very heavy on the eyes. Plus after one of the game restarts it stopped showing me some of the models like angry dog (other version was fine), hungry seagulls, gravedigger.

I think the target audience would have loved to see this. Too bad they can't see.

Very mixed. The game's story is good enough to warrant a playthrough, but you need to be patient because this girl walks like a turtle covered in molasses. And the full-white screen is straight up annoying, like the developers themselves are attempting to blind you for the full experience. But, hey it did leave an impression on me. Sucks it's not on sale anymore, so it's either in your library already or from a Humble Bundle.

Art games, so difficult to review. Beyond eyes is just a walking simulator where you play as Ray, a girl who is blind. Therefore the world unravels as you walk around. She also reacts to noises and smells, which help her to fill the gaps. Probably the best aspect of these mechanics, is how she most of the time is wrong on what is making a noise, and once you get close to it, the real object fades in. Ray starts her journey by leaving her house to find her cat. That's the whole plot. The game is divided in 6 chapters, plus a short prologue. It's a very short game, but somehow it drags a lot because of one specific thing. The walking speed is ultra slow. It makes sense ingame that a blind person is going to be cautious and slow, but when you already traversed most of the space on each chapter, it takes a ton of time to go back to a place where maybe there was something else. There's barely any interactions, apart from some very basic puzzles like fetch a ball. Some chapters introduce what probably is the biggest challenge: rain. The rain will erase what you uncovered so far, introducing an element of rush to not get lost. Most of the levels except the first one, are actually…
