I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this game. I was given a copy of this game by the developer and went into playing it totally blind. After reading the Steam page I expected some jumpscares or some semblance of AI that would allow the "Occupant" to appear in places you wouldn't expect them to be. Sadly, this was not the case. This "monster" spawns in and follows you nonstop while you go around completing tasks which are as exciting as: -Collecting books -Collecting chairs -Collecting drawers -Hitting the monster with a book I wish I was kidding. That is the entire game. There is nothing else here. Please don't buy this game.
Overview
The Occupant is a first-person horror game, with lo-fi graphics and presented in a found footage format. The Occupant is also a terrible game. The game is broken up into twenty rounds, which has you working on various goals. The very first goal is to pick up three items, and throw those three items, then make your way to the elevator to exit the level. Goals, in theory, become harder as you progress, but there’s never really a time when the game presents a challenge. While you’re collecting books, drawers, boxes, chairs and cabinets, you’ll be chased around by a mysterious white creature, presumably this is the Occupant. He moves slow, and causes your vision to become static when he’s close enough. He presents absolutely no challenge, mainly due to its speed and that you can run faster. When carrying heavier objects, like chairs and drawers, you slow down yourself, but considering you can toss the item ahead of you, run, pick it up, rinse and repeat, you’re unlikely to ever get caught. Graphics are passable, but nothing to write home about. Audio and music are also passable. There are some audio cues that clue you in to the Occupant’s presence, s…4 found this helpful
I liked the premise of the game. Created a good spooky mood. However, the game is a bit too easy to beat, and the occupant is easy to get away from and avoid, which reduces the scariness level. You spend more time worrying about where the items are than where the occupant is. I think the game is a good start, but can be more successful with some additional wrinkles to increase difficulty. Game was fun, however. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bo_9_iy-G9g3 found this helpful
The monster design is very creepy. You get bored very quick though, since at first you expect it to get harder with more objects or maybe a faster monster but it doesn't really become different. Thing is, this isn't supposed to be a pc game, it came out on mobile, and I played it on my grandma's iPad. Then at some point later the developer released it on steam, and changed nothing about it, I guess so they could get a little extra money and so people could play the game on their computer if they rly wanted to. U pay 2 dollars for a older unreal engine 3 indie horror game. I'd buy it if u want to give the developer of the game some money, they honestly did a pretty good job at least when it was released back then on iOS.1 found this helpful
