Vasilis is an artistic, hand drawn game with an intriguing story. However, its confusing map layout and repetitive flashing animations retracted my immersion from the story-line and instead left me with a headache.
Pros: + Hand-drawn. + Melancholy atmosphere. + Unique story with interactive characters throughout. Cons: - Confusing and ever changing map layout. It is extremely easy to get lost. - Flickering and repeated animations strained my eyes. - Consists of mainly fetch quests. - Repetitive soundtrack with no audio dialogue. - Nitpick Some of the English text is badly translated and doesn't make sense. - Nitpick It is difficult to know which characters you can interact with, other than by pressing E on everyone.
Story and gameplay
Set during the Ukrainian political events in 2014, you play as an old woman who has lost her husband (Peter) amongst the cities riots, fires and other atrocities caused by war. The game is divided over 5 relatively large chapters each consist of a main theme. The players task is to essentially track down Peter amongst the chaos whilst interacting with the many residents of the city and complet…49 found this helpful
This is a weird Adventure that seems to require a gamepad; it wasn't mouse-driven, like I'd expected. That actually works in its favor; there's something about the walking that makes it more immersive. As you can probably tell, it's a really weird game; that's likely what you're after, if you're looking at this, and that's certainly what you'll get. I'd recommend playing this late at night for maximum effect, too. As for the story, you only ever have a vague idea of what's going on; that's half because you're not supposed to know more, and half because it's ALMOST in English. Definitely worth a look, if you're into this sort of thing.9 found this helpful
i very enjoyed the drawings and claustrophobic feel of the town however i got lost in the plot especially, on later sections of the game. My supportive nature for indie developers is not allowing for thumbs down though.9 found this helpful
A distinctly Slavic adventure game with an atmosphere of mystical filthiness and torment, evocative of Yerofeyev and Dostoyevsky novels. Surreal and disturbing art with a haunting story and setting. A must-play for fans of off-beat adventure games.4 found this helpful
Really hard to get into this one - love hand drawn games and respect the time and dedication to put it together. The audio and style however made me need to get out fast.2 found this helpful
I's like to start by saying, I'm disappointed I can't recommend this title, I bought it a while ago and finally got to play it. I play quite a few indie dev games and this one was missing some important things to make the story understandable. I think the biggest problem this game faces is the poor translation. Due to the translation it wasn't always clear what was being asked of the player and the story was lost along the way. Visually, I love the scratched look, it seems like a good style to portray the conflict that is taking place. It was a relatively short game as well, which I know people tend to not like.
