In the vein (pun) of Alone in the Dark and The Legacy: Realm of Terror. Fun story, horrible 'combat', and interesting puzzles. Put the combat on 'easy' and play for the story. I had stumbled upon this one waaaay back in the day of physical games, and I believe it was in either Waldensoftware or Babbages (may they both RIP) where I found it. I enjoy revisiting these games during Halloween season and it's got a rewarding ending as well. Recommend a playthrough.2 found this helpful
Veil of Darkness is a classic point-and-click horror game from the 90s 😊. You play as a detective investigating a series of bizarre murders in a small town, uncovering a supernatural conspiracy. The game's got a creepy atmosphere, with a focus on puzzle-solving and exploration. Pros: Creepy Vibe: The game's got a great atmosphere, with plenty of tense moments Intriguing Story: The plot's got some twists and turns, keeping you engaged Challenging Puzzles: The game's puzzles are tough but rewarding to solve Cons: Old Graphics: The visuals might look really dated to modern players _Some Clunky Controls**: The game's interface can be a bit awkward _Short Length**: The game's relatively short, might feel a bit pricey for some Rating: 6.5/101 found this helpful

Veil of Darkness, developed by Event Horizon Software and published by SNEG, is a gothic adventure-RPG hybrid that stands out for its atmosphere, narrative design, and willingness to let players find their own path. Originally released in the early 1990s, it places you in the role of an ordinary cargo pilot whose routine flight ends in disaster when a supernatural force pulls his plane down into a secluded Romanian valley. Stranded in a land ruled by a vampire lord, the story quickly shifts into a tale of survival, mystery, and gradual resistance against a curse that has consumed the region. What immediately defines the experience is its open-ended structure. Rather than directing players through a strict sequence of objectives, the game allows exploration of the valley in a largely non-linear way. You move between villages, forests, and ruins, interacting with inhabitants and uncovering fragments of information that slowly reveal what must be done. Progress often comes from understanding relationships between characters, items, and events, rather than following clear instructions. This design can feel disorienting at first, especially for players accustomed to modern guidance sys…
