Volunteer is a primitive horror action game about a man who went to the laboratory to deal with monsters resulting from work on human DNA. It seems that there are already dozens of such plots in games. When entering the game we're greeted by the simplest menu in which you can see a brief history, key bindings and that's all. There're no settings in the game, neither graphic, nor interface settings, nor sound. Volunteer starts right away with the fact that you're in the room of either a hospital or a laboratory with a corpse lying nearby. No explanations or hints are given during the game. For some reason, a semblance of an employee's card is soaring over the corpse. However, when you press the action key nothing happens. In general, as you can understand, the essence of the game is to find keys and bullets in order to reach the end of the level. At the same time, along the way you have to get rid of monsters that look like zombies. Of the weapons there are: bare hands, with which it's almost impossible to cause damage; an ax, which is also very difficult to cause damage due to the fact that the monsters are actively moving, and it's difficult to point the camera at them; the mach…8 found this helpful
not ready, so many issues. don't hit ESC the game crashes. you look (mouse-up & W-forward) to jump. if hit any button it puts your weapon away (so when you open a door the gun goes away but that's when to enemy jumps out) no menu, no key rebind. Super washy gameplay. low frame rate. did I mention no menu to change anything. lots of clipping, horrible Axe animation. you can't look straight up or down and when an enemy gets close to you they're inside you where you can't shoot and if you move they follow inside you. it has potential but needs more attention.8 found this helpful
Volunteer

Literally Bug Paradise
No, this game is nowhere near ready for release. It’s literally filled with so many bugs and glitches. It’s not even optimized properly. The game is apparently being developed by two apprentice developers. But this doesn’t justify that they put the game up for sale in its current state. I don’t think they even bothered to playtest it as most of the issues are extremely obvious. I really hope they either remove the game from sale until they fix the issues and make it playable or at least fix the game as soon as possible.
About This Game

Storyline
The game does have a very basic plot. How did I come to know this? Well, I read about it in the game’s description on its Steam Store page. There is no mention of the story in the actual game itself. It does exist as a menu in the main menu but not during the gameplay. I have no clue why they didn’t include it since it would actually elevate the overall gameplay experience by at least a bit. So, the story as per the game’s store page is as follows:
You play the part of a former soldier. He volunteers at a biotechnology clinic, where he experiments with human …5 found this helpful
Volunteer is an ambitious narrative driven FPS whose imagination is only matched by the woeful quality of the technical delivery. We all know and love FPS games, have done since Wolfenstien (and Catacombs3D!), and this one has a pretty cool, dark story about a soldier and DNA manipulation and monsters, etc etc. Pretty cool stuff. The technical delivery, apart from being a bug riddled mess, is more horrible than the monsters in the game. It's quite a shame to see great ideas wasted with poor implementation. Let's get into it. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. Bewilderingly, the game doesn't include proper audio controls, so you can't turn off the annoying background music, you'll need to alt+tab out and stop the music using the Windows sound mixer. This is obviously not okay and it's unclear why the developers chose not to include …4 found this helpful
A learning experience that can be used as a stepping stone to a better future titles. The game engine does not appear to have been designed for home PCs. When you click the game's icon, nothing happens for roughly 10 seconds. When it finally starts, you're disappointed to discover that there are no settings. You'll have to make due with the game's default button layout and graphics because the resolution is set to a setting that is below modern standards. Also, pressing the "esc" button crashes the game. No matter where you are, you end up back on the desktop. Now, the game looks like a student project that shouldn’t really be released in this state. Constant clipping issues and framerates that have no business being this low can be ignored because every game has those. But gameplay issues are something else. First big obstacle is the weird gear controls. You have a useless flashlight, an axe, or a gun. Each has a separate button so you can’t swap between them in an easy way. The issue comes when you press the use button to open doors or grab; this removes any item from your hand. It’s not fun losing a weapon each time you interact with a door and an enemy kills you before you …2 found this helpful
