Players appreciate this classic wargame for its deep strategic gameplay, high replayability through random scenario generation, and timeless design where age doesn't diminish the experience, though several note it runs well via DOSBox with fullscreen support. The main complaints center on the steep learning curve with no tutorial despite an 80-page manual, and technical issues some players face running it on Windows 11, though others report it works fine with the right settings. The lack of a continuous campaign mode and the commitment required to master the game are minor disappointments for
so far i like it. it is old but one of those games that age doesnt really matter that much bc its all calculation and randomness lol not to mention its just maps, mounts, cannons and troops. for me works great on windows 11. it runs through a dosbox so "alt+enter" will give u full screen. u can find mods and scenarios but not really needed with the random scenario generator. a lot of replayability here for the price. only part i wish it had was an open campaign instead of linked scenarios but ya cant have everything i guess lol2 found this helpful
You need to be very committed to play this game. Now the manual is 80 pages long and still no tutorial, but it at least has a better graphical interface than the previousones.2 found this helpful

Rather than focusing on spectacle, it prioritizes accuracy, structure, and the slow, deliberate decision-making that defines classic wargaming. At its core, the game operates on a hex-based system where each turn requires careful planning and consideration. Units must be positioned thoughtfully, terrain must be used to advantage, and factors such as morale, supply, and command hierarchy all play crucial roles in determining outcomes. Battles are rarely decided by a single action; instead, they unfold gradually as players coordinate movements, anticipate enemy responses, and manage the limitations of their forces. This layered approach gives the game a strong se…1 found this helpful
