Where The Crows Roam

Short horror game of the sort with a stalking monster, jump scares and some light problem solving. Not my usual genre of game but I was looking for relatively new and little reviewed games for the Steam Summer Sale and took a chance on this one. The graphics are suitably surreal and atmospheric, the music selections work well and the whole package was entertaining for an hour. The description says that this was made by a sixth grader so well done. What story there is doesn't really come up until the third and final chapter but I assume most people play these for the overall vibe and getting chased by weird stuff and this game delivers on that. A few quibbles are that the lighting can get a little wonky, some sort of sound feedback would be great for the levers (which have a delayed visual effect so you wind up spamming it and not knowing if you hit it for a few moments) and the achievement for completing Chapter One seems to be broken. Nothing really game breaking but worth remembering for the next game or giving this one a polish.

Really enjoyed this game. Really liked the artstyle and how unique the game felt. very nice idea. Here's some improvement suggestions for the dev: ○ The lighting gets a little crazy especially later in the game where the screen keeps just randomly darkening and it gets rather frustrating to see. Especially in places like [spoiler] Sewers and Mines [/spoiler] Several times throughout my playthrough i thought i hit a loading screen which was just the screen darkening randomly lol. ○ The on screen story text really doesn't really doesn't give you enough time to read it. Especially with the hard to read font. Maybe make that a click when done text or just give it a longer timer. ○ Using the Activate Key gets also a little frustrating since you gotta stand right inside of stuff because the range is so short. Especially when [spoiler] chased by monsters and you have to hit a lever and when picking up wax [/spoiler] Here's some minor tweaks as well maybe: ○ [spoiler] Music in the first chase loops too early and just cuts the song off. once again, i'm obligated to recommend since this was made by a 6th grader and it's better than anything i could put out with my skillset. there are plenty of faults but it's still an interesting experience. some notes: - flashlight is far too dark and makes enemies impossible to see in dark levels - checkpoints before enemy encounters in chapters 2 and 3 are way too far back - being chased through a maze where the only way to find the exit is through trial and error becomes tedious very quickly also, i'm gonna need the name of that chase music because that beat is FIRE.

Actually pretty good for a 6th grader. Though it is short, the world is cleverly designed and the story is cohesive. Each chapter is a clear improvement in the authors game making skills. I never recovered from the first jump scare and slow cleared corners for the remainder of the game!

Great game the creaters a bit weird but overall really fun and scary

Stylistically a colourful bendy & the ink machine with some giant penquin friend chase scenes every so often. it’s basically a maze game with a lot of colour and while it does end randomly & suddenly, it shows very competent levels of understanding game design and therefore does show a fair bit of promise from a very young game dev.
