About WHITE ALBUM: Memories like Falling Snow

The classic visual novel from AQUAPLUS that launched one of Japan's most beloved franchises.

WHITE ALBUM is a story of love in many forms.

Touya Fujii is an ordinary college student but for one thing:
His connection to the popular singer Yuki Morikawa.

That popular singer, you see, is his girlfriend...
and the more popular she gets, the less time
the two can spend together.
Will they stay a couple, or will their ways part?
As winter falls and the air grows colder,
the two lay down new tracks in the album of their love...

This album will be as white as snow, and as poignant.

CHARACTERS

An up-and-coming singer who made her debut just one year ago. She's been dating Touya ever since high school, and the two now attend the same college. However, her increasing popularity hasn't improved their relationship, and instead is threatening to tear them apart.
Yuki's senior coworker at the production agency they both belong to, Rina Ogata grew into stardom from a young age due to a mixture of talent and hard work... not to mention her good looks, quick thinking, smooth manners, accumulated experience, unwavering singing voice, and unbreakable spirit. These traits and more have helped make her an unstoppable force in the entertainment world—and all she had to sacrifice was any semblance of a personal life.
Having lived near Touya all her life, she's been a friend and constant presence in his life since kindergarten. Lives life at her own pace, whimsical and none too assertive, with hobbies along the lines of casual sports and lazy strolls. She's also especially fond of Touya himself, but the two are just friends, of course, and nothing more...
A high school pal of Touya and friends who now goes to the same college, albeit one year ahead. Loves reading and cooking but tends to keep to herself, and despite her many talents, she can be surprisingly clumsy. Most people love Misaki due to her friendly personality; Yuki, in particular, sees her almost as an older sister.
A random acquaintance of Touya's, Mana is selfish, mercurial, hostile, somewhat mischievous, and generally childish in appearance and demeanor... except sometimes, when she shows hints of more of a mature side. Seems to be spending an awful lot of time on her own...
Yuki's manager. Where Yuki goes, Yayoi follows, watching over her charge and righting the course when things go wrong with as few words as possible. She's willing to remove any obstacle to Yuki's bright future as a star... even if that obstacle is her boyfriend. Inconvenient things like emotions don't hamper Yayoi's decision-making, which makes her coldly effective in her wholehearted devotion to Yuki. She comes off more like a robot than a person.
The former leader of the popular idol group Sakurako Club, Sayoko has since "graduated" and is now working on her own solo career. She's stubborn, but surprisingly sensitive. Currently awaiting the results of the college entrance exam with trepidation.

PROLOGUE

Strains of a song drift on the cold winter wind,
and outside a music shop, my feet come to a stop.
The cathode-ray tubes of the monitor pipe in a picture
and I stand here, on the other side, silently watching.
On my way home from classes, amid the biting chill, she holds me rapt...

It's been as ordinary as every other day of my life.
Ordinary, that is, in every way except one.
We've clung together just as always, even since her debut.
At least so far.

She leads her extraordinary life, and I live my mediocre one.
People meet, and they break up, and get all mixed up together,
but the days spin by all the same.

Great game for sure. One of the most obnoxious 100%s I've ever done though. Used a guide from the PS3 Japanese release lolol

Cheating on your girlfriend, the videogame. Looking into this game, I was actually more interested in the more acclaimed White Album 2, but figured I’d give the first game a shot first since it was for sale on steam. Where White Album 2 is a 60+ hour epic centered around a tense love triangle drama, this game is a remake of a faaaaaaaar simpler, far more bare bones dating sim from the 90s. And that age can be felt everywhere in this remake’s bones, for better or worse. Often worse. The premise sees our main character, Touya start the story already in a relationship with his high school sweetheart, Yuki. Who herself is in the middle of an important turning point in her budding idol career. Their relationship is tested and strained as Yuki’s work constantly pulls her away, leaving Touya to wrestle with his insecurity, and his frustratingly questionable ability to not make things worse. The game itself is structured in daily conversations you can pick for Touya across the city map with the game’s characters across the winter months, interspersed with longer event story scenes that advance your chosen heroine’s plot beats. Which… on one hand, does help characterize each member of t…

Just read White Album 2. As someone who doubted how much better it could possibly be than the original, I can confidently say after reading it that nobody is exaggerating. It's a masterpiece and also one of the most emotionally draining things I ever read (in a good way). As for this game: A lot of the routes feel pretty similar with almost all of them essentially just having the same purpose:
"you cheated on your girlfriend, feel bad"
Aside from that a lot of the characters actions don't make much sense (especially the main characters) so you're more-so just questioning why characters are doing the things they are doing rather than actually feeling the impact of it and the resulting consequences.

Choose your own adventure type novel, where you have almost too many choices to the point it's overwhelming. Combined with cute animations and honestly some of the best music I've heard from a game, there's a reason this game is considered a classic amongst the Visual Novel fandom.

This game shaped my entire adult personality and music taste and it's so great to finally be able to play the remake on Steam after seeing scattered bits of it over the years. It's like making a pilgrimage to the Mecca for me and it did not disappoint. I came in fully expecting to only play Rina's route, but I fell in love with Sayoko over the course of her route, and every little pause in the text filled me with dread as much as every line of heartfelt, carefully dialogue wrapped my heart with fuzzy fluffy love. Absolutely recommended, btw Rina's version of Powder Snow is the best, don't @ me.
