Wormhole City

"Wormhole City" was apparently a genuine attempt to make a narrative driven cyberpunk mecha shooter thing... the ambition of the game dwarfed the ability of the developers to create it. A bug riddled half-formed mess of the game was the result, and what little promise this had never eventuated. The story involves a mercenary piloting a mecha to defend a space convoy. Players interact with environments and characters, but the gameplay mechanics, overall quality, and potential are not notable. The graphics in this game are passable, but could be better. And while it's vital for any game to have impressive visuals (gaming is a visual medium, after all), there's more to a game than just the graphics. To be worth a gamers time, the game must match top tier visuals with top tier gameplay, and that's not happening here. It's free... now, but it wasn't before. The developer was charging $10 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It's a nice gesture for the game to be given away for free, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. It's also a bit of a slap in the face to anyone …

С первых минут захватывает идея развития сразу нескольких поселений, которые объединены сложной сетью порталов. Приходится постоянно балансировать между потребностями каждого города, оптимизируя логистику ресурсов и пассажиропоток. Графика приятная, хоть и не самая передовая, но функциональная и понятная. Интерфейс интуитивно осваивается, а многочисленные подсказки помогают разобраться в тонкостях игры. Экономическая модель достаточно глубокая, требующая стратегического планирования и учета множества факторов. Особенно радует разнообразие построек и возможностей для развития городов. Можно специализировать каждый город на определенном ресурсе или отрасли промышленности, создавая взаимовыгодную систему сотрудничества. Единственный минус – иногда игра может показаться немного монотонной в поздних стадиях, когда города уже хорошо развиты. Хотелось бы больше разнообразия в событиях и случайных происшествиях. В целом, Wormhole City – это отличная игра для любителей градостроительных симуляторов, предлагающая свежий взгляд на жанр и увлекательный гей…

Weird game. There are on-foot sequences with fixed camera angles like Resident Evil, Dino Crisis, and Deep Fear. Then there are janky mecha sequences. In between there are talky sequences that seem to be giving off a Gundam vibe of "it's not 'good country' vs 'bad country', it's real people who just happen to end up having to kill each other."... with robots. I can sort of see hints of a good game in here, but I think it needs more work. If this was marked "Early Access" I'd be like "no worries". The set dressings are pretty excellent.
