Xeno Crisis

TL;DR - Xenocrisis is a very good game that I cannot in any reasonable way, recommend to anyone other than masocore fanatics. It accomplishes what the developers set out to do, which is one way of measuring success in game development I suppose, but just because a game meets the devs' goals, doesn't mean it should actually be recommended to players. Predominantly, this is because the game is viciously difficult, which, by itself isn't an issue. The problem is, it is made difficult in poorly executed, chaotically inconsistent, or needlessly sadistic ways. The sadism, I could handle (maybe). The poor execution and inconsistency? That's no good, and can't be recommended to the bulk of players. At Length - Xenocrisis is a 2D, Top-down, snappy Twin Stick Shooter mostly in the vein of Smash TV but with a dodge roll and aesthetics cribbed heavily from Aliens. The pixel graphics are lovely and the music is really quite groovy, and it even has a couch co-op mode, which probably makes this game much more accessible on console but is less relevant on PC. It's just like all the old arcade games you used to tolerate, especially in its love of stalling out by copy pasting the same room and encounter with 6 waves of identical reinforcements before finally letting a stage mercifully end.

TLDR: A twin-stick shooter with satisfying gameplay and fantastic soundtrack. Devs understand how to make a good arcade game with high difficulty and no bs concentrated intense gaming. Achievements encourage you to learn the game and face harder challenges: felt very rewarding completing 100%. Totally worth it playing! An arcade game the way it should be: no time to explain – grab the gun and shoot the enemies. Clear visuals: everything is distinct and easy to parse. Controls are responsive and fluid – feels satisfying to move and shoot. However, you can’t reassign buttons and are forced to play with predetermined scheme. Playing with keyboard is probably not the best idea – the binds are quite unintuitive, so I played with a controller, and, although I probably would change a few buttons, it was no problem. As for music and sound, their volume is a binary switch: I would certainly like a slider. Good thing is - they are awesome! SmashTV + Carnage = XenoCrisis

Reef entertainment goes and pays a bunch of influencers to say good things about xenocrisis even though xenocrisis is no longer in physical production and you only can buy them via resellers on ebay at quadruple the price. So for them to send copies of xenocrisis in 2026 for free or a discount is a travesty. I regret buying this game and the cards/badge. It would be fine if xenocrisis didn't have reduced scarcity can you could still buy it from the online store for a reasonable price, but it's not and for pos reef entertainment to keep promoting the game years after its 2019 release is faggoty. I know steam will censor that word but that's the best way to describe this. Please don't buy this game. ♥♥♥♥ you reef entertainment
