Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2

There’s something off about the feel of this game. It feels like they wanted a continuation but threw the original out the window. Playing with randoms is a mess. People sprint way ahead while others lag behind, then scripted doors slam shut and split the team. There are no failsafes, so you get softlocked. Good luck when that happens. The guns look and sound fine, but besides small functional differences there’s no real reason to pick one over another except looks or chasing the DPS number. Gameplay itself doesn’t feel good. The pacing is World War Z with aliens and synths that auto-track you. It turns into an arcade shooter. Maps are split into chapters with mini-missions that connect, but the story is so watered down I don’t even pay attention when the unskippable cutscenes kick in. They had the template. Fireteam Elite 1 worked. My disappointment also comes from the environments. The first game was linear, but the spaces felt huge. Everything was massive. This one shrinks it all into a corridor run: start at the beginning, get to the end. No real mid-mission objectives. No setting up a hold point against a random horde, just scripted spawn waves. Get in on sale. No more than 34.99, or ideally 29.99 imo.

Game's awesome, except I need to type launch codes in my Linux terminal every time I install it because of the Cutscenes.

The game is fun and fast paced and the number of enemies feels like a true alien swarm at times. There are multiple difficulty levels and challenge cards that make each play through a bit different. My only concern is longevity of the game after maxing characters. I do hope there will be continuing support for the game with additional story line

The first "Aliens: Fireteam Elite" was fantastically done, both in terms of gorgeous true-to-movie visuals as well as playability. This second installment builds even more on the first, including new, more devious enemies, all new game maps, new in-game voiceovers (one of my *favorite* aspects of the original AFE because of how well they were done), new weapons, new challenge cards and more. The music is also excellent (though a bit loud by default). At first I was a bit skeptical of paying for a whole new version of the game, thinking the changes wouldn't be significant enough to warrant the full price. But after playing for more 40 hours so far, I can definitely say it has been worth it, and I have hundreds more hours of gameplay to look forward to. This new version also has TONS more ways to tweak your build compared to v1. As before, there are 3 attachments per weapon, with many more attachment options/combinations than before. Some weapons/attachments now have different "modes" during battle, allowing you to change your fire rate, change your scope magnification, or switch to a secondary type of ammo (like explosive grenades).
