About Zoelie - SCAD Games Studio
Zoélie is an Action Puzzle Platformer that tells the story of a young girl exploring her town of La Colina alongside her imagination-powered quilt , Sueño.
Spirited and adventurous, Zoélie is a young girl overflowing with imagination. When her older sister Sofia leaves in a hurry, Zoélie is distraught at the loss of her best friend and storyteller. She goes on a wild journey, climbing to great heights and crossing dangerous waters in order to be reunited with her dearest sister.
One of our key mechanics is Zoe's quilt, Sueño. It can transform into multiple items that allow her to explore the world. It also grants her special abilities like distracting animals and using camouflage to hide in plain site. In our world, Sueño also reveals secrets such as transforming the local graffiti into maps and hints.
After studying the local customs and mythology, the Development team chose South America for our setting, specifically the Buenos Aires region. We came up with a ton of concepts, fascinating story ideas, and interesting mechanics. The core idea of the imagination of the child being central to the game was the only constraint we held on to during this process. We learned that family is very important to the people of South America, particularly the bond between siblings, so we included Zoélie's sister Sofia as a key character.

Zoelie is a family friendly third person puzzle platformer/adventure student project where you guide a young South American girl through a number of trials aided by a talking cat and a magical blanket. Looking at the screenshots, there's no denying the visuals are pretty good, but you're abruptly confronted with a lot of problems if you actually try to play the game. Resolution and controls are locked, in fact, there's no options menu at all, so you can't tweak or correct anything. There's some muddy filters and motion blur that really must go, but because the developers didn't get up to the part of the course where you add a configuration menu, you can't fix this problem. Controls are sloppy, when guiding the camera with the mouse sometimes it will lock up in one direction until you move around a bit. Gameplay itself is quite janky and unsmooth. The game could really use audio tweaks and subtitles, too. I really feel there's a huge amount of wasted work here as the top table visual design and graphics are very good, but the ball was dropped on basic gameplay stuff. While this is free, which is the only acceptable way to publish a student project on Steam, the problems wi…5 found this helpful
I'ma bout to write a strongly worded message about why this project is bad enough I'd have failed the students working on it.
Here we go
So back when I played this game, I was so angry that I had to step away for months. I'm still angry. I need to let people know what this game is. It's janky and broken in many aspects. I wouldn't be proud of this game because clearly someone who play-tested (IF IT WAS EVEN PLAY TESTED) the game was on the team making it. The controls barely work, and the abilities don't justify the difficulty, because the difficulty is based off the same issue. Controls and direction are awful. This leads to a confusing, and infuriating experience just at the beginning. It's so busted I soft-locked myself 2-3 times, then the opening scenes can't properly be skipped as it can lead to a crash. This is an embarrassment. And now this janky mess is stuck in my library forever. Nobody deserves that kind of pain and suffering. No that isn't the legal term, it just gave me an anger migraine.3 found this helpful

Atrocious on multiple levels. The game is a linear mess that fails to show you the way, all while getting reset randomly. The animated texture Visuals are the closest the game gets to having something noteworthy, but the problem is no matter how much time and effort went into making them shift and be pretty, they are completely uncommunicative. You have no idea what the game will let you jump fruitlessly against vs. climb. The phantoms that you trigger for the blanket appear inconsistently or fail to stand out at all. All this while being constantly harassed about needing to scare or avoid every NPC, dog and cat or you get a random reset back to a checkpoint that might not even be reachable any other way.1 found this helpful
